Summary: There is some evidence suggesting an association between exposure to pesticides, particularly insecticides, and an increased risk of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the current evidence is limited and further epidemiological studies are needed to confirm this relationship.

Summary: Platelet index abnormalities are present in patients with autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), with increased platelet count (PLT) and mean platelet volume (MPV) in AITD patients compared to healthy controls. However, no significant difference was found in platelet distribution width (PDW). The differences in PLT were mainly observed in Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and hypothyroid groups, while the differences in MPV were mainly observed in Graves' disease (GD) and hyperthyroid groups.

Summary: This study summarizes the existing epidemiological studies on the association between Parkinson's disease and autoimmune diseases and conducts a meta-analysis of the combined results. The results show a significant association between Parkinson's disease and several autoimmune diseases, but no significant association with certain other diseases. Clinicians need to be aware of the possibility of coexistence of autoimmune diseases when diagnosing Parkinson's disease.

Summary: This study reviewed existing studies to assess differences in serum vitamin B12 levels among patients with and without thyroid disorders (TD), frequency of vitamin B12 deficiency, and presence of anti-parietal cell antibodies in TD patients. Results showed that patients with hypothyroidism had lower vitamin B12 levels compared to healthy participants, while no significant differences were observed in patients with hyperthyroidism, autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD), or subclinical hypothyroidism (SH). The frequencies of vitamin B12 deficiency were 27%, 6%, 27%, and 18% for hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, SH, and AITD respectively.

Summary: Clopidogrel, a commonly used antiplatelet drug, may be a modifiable and causal risk factor of hypoglycemia. Substituting clopidogrel with ticagrelor has been shown to be an effective treatment. The Asian population may be more susceptible to clopidogrel-associated hypoglycemia and require additional care.

Summary: The goal of this study was to determine the melamine content in different food products available on the Iranian market. The analysis found high levels of melamine in dairy products, coffee mate, chocolates, and infant formula. The results highlight the need for regular analysis of melamine contamination in Iranian food products, especially infant formula.

Summary: Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) is characterized by thyroid dysfunction and deficits in the autoimmune system. Recent studies have shown altered gut microbiota composition in patients with AITD, with changes in alpha diversity and abundance of specific gut microbiota. The meta-analysis indicated an association between AITD and alteration of microbiota composition at the family, genus, and species levels.

Summary: Through a systematic review and network meta-analysis, it was found that infant formula supplemented with probiotics or synbiotics may have certain effects on reducing colic, fever days, and antibiotic use in healthy infants and 36-month-old toddlers. However, there is considerable heterogeneity which reduces the certainty of these effects, and no significant effects were observed on weight, height, and changes in fecal bacteria proportions.

Summary: The European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology is updating guidelines on food allergy diagnosis and management by conducting a new systematic review to assess the accuracy of index tests for IgE-mediated food allergy. The protocol aims to evaluate various tests' accuracy in diagnosing food allergy, which can be beneficial in both clinical and research settings.

Summary: This study analyzed patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and found that they can be divided into three different phenotypes, each with different mortality risks. The identification of these phenotypes can guide specific interventions and management plans, thus advancing precision medicine and public health for patients with NAFLD.

Summary: This systematic review with meta-analysis aimed to identify and summarise the evidence of all prognostic factors for chronic post-surgical pain after lung and pleural surgery. The study found that patients with higher postoperative pain intensity, severe pre-operative pain, and longer surgery duration are more likely to develop chronic post-surgical pain. On the other hand, intercostal nerve block and video-assisted thoracic surgery can decrease the risk of chronic post-surgical pain. Age and sex were not found to have a significant effect on chronic post-surgical pain.

Summary: India is a low-middle income country with a population of 1.4 billion and home to one quarter of the world's children. Exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months and continued breastfeeding until at least 2 years as per global recommendations are common practice. The Indian government and associated organisations have strived to protect breastfeeding, which is important in a country with high under-5 mortality, malnutrition and stunting.

Summary: This review examines the effects of dietary and supplemental fatty acids on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results show that a diet high in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), and low in saturated fatty acids (SFA), can reduce liver fat and stiffness. The use of culinary fats high in MUFA can reduce liver steatosis. Supplementation of omega-3 PUFA in combination with a low SFA diet improves liver enzyme levels and steatosis score.

Summary: This study assessed the reporting of time-to-event (TTE) outcomes in clinical trial publications included in meta-analyses. Data were extracted from 50 systematic reviews identified from the Cochrane Database and Core Clinical Journals, including information on trial methods, characteristics, and TTE analysis. The study found that there were often missing information on definitions, censoring reasons, and follow-up specifications in trial publications. Commonly reported TTE data in trials included survival curves, log-rank P values, and hazard ratios (HRs). Reviews mostly specified HRs or P values when recalculating trial TTE data. The reporting limitations in trial publications translated to the review level.
