Summary: Direct growth of orthorhombic Ta3N5-type Ta-O-N compound thin films with different atomic fractions on Si and sapphire substrates was achieved using unbalanced magnetron sputtering. Increasing the total pressure led to higher oxygen incorporation and a decrease in nitrogen and tantalum fractions in the films, resulting in a decrease in lattice constant. The increase in oxygen incorporation also resulted in a widening of the optical bandgap and a transition from crystalline Ta3-xN5-yOy to amorphous O-rich Ta-O-N compound films.

Summary: This study found that adding ZnCl2 can increase the efficiency of EC for PFOA, and the longer the carbon chain of PFA, the better the removal by EC. Chemical bonding between aluminum and fluoride was observed. The main functions of ZnCl2 were to prevent the rise in pH and improve flotation.

Summary: This study investigates the factors influencing the zinc plating and stripping behavior in aqueous zinc-ion batteries using in situ and operando X-ray microscopy methods. The results demonstrate that substrate curvature, local morphology, electrochemical protocols, and surface chemistry all collectively affect the zinc plating behavior. These findings provide new insights for developing dendrite-free and long-span aqueous zinc-ion batteries.

Summary: The zinc-ion battery is a promising candidate for next-generation energy storage devices due to abundant zinc materials and high energy density. However, the formation of zinc dendrites during charge-discharge cycling hinders practical application. In this study, operando digital optical microscopy and in situ lab-based X-ray computed tomography (CT) were used to investigate the morphologies of zinc electrodeposition/dissolution in symmetric Zn||Zn cells. The results reveal the dynamic nucleation and growth of zinc deposits, heterogeneous transportation of charged clusters/particles, and evolution of 'dead' zinc particles through partial dissolution. The findings shed light on the formation mechanism of zinc dendrites and offer insights into suppressing their growth.

Summary: X-ray photodiodes made of metal halide perovskites with solution-processed dopant incorporated epitaxial growth show low leakage dark current density and noise current, high response speed, detection sensitivity, and the lowest detectable dose rate. This work paves the way for fabricating high-performance devices based on perovskites using solution-processed methods and explores new possibilities for low dose and high dynamic X-ray detectors based on MHPs.

Summary: The study showed that Ti1-x-yAlxTayN coatings have improved protective properties at 850 degrees Celsius, but this effect diminishes at 950 degrees Celsius. Additionally, it was found that the protective properties of the Ti1-x-yAlxTayN coatings deteriorate with increasing Ta content, with only the Ti0.41Al0.49Ta0.10N composition providing effective protection for the titanium substrate.

Summary: Chromium nitride thin films were prepared by reactive radio frequency magnetron sputtering, and their properties were studied in relation to the nitrogen to argon flow rate ratio and film composition. The results show that the film composition, band gap, and electronic phase transition are influenced by the gas flow ratio and film composition.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of annealing on the structural and magnetic properties of Ta/CoFeB/TaOx thin film heterostructure. They found that annealing improves the interface quality, enhances the saturation magnetization and uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, and the thickness of the Ta spacer layer and annealing temperature play a crucial role in controlling the interface quality.

Summary: The study comprehensively investigated the fruits and fibers of the cuajilote tree, finding a decrease in cellulose content and an increase in lignin content in fruits as they ripen, mainly due to the lignification process. Microstructural and micromechanical studies provided important information on the cellular architecture of fibers and their role in mechanical reinforcement of materials. The study also offered criteria for selecting the appropriate ripening stage for cellulose or lignin extraction.

Summary: X-ray reflectometry (XRR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to measure Cu thin films with different thicknesses (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 A) coated with Ta layers. The results showed that the protective layer was completely oxidized when the thickness of Ta layer reached 10 A. At a thickness of 15 A, a pure Ta-metal line appeared in the XPS spectrum, and its contribution increased up to 30 A. The XPS spectra of the underlying copper layer indicated oxidation and formation of CuO up to a Ta-layer thickness of 10 A, but complete protection against oxidation was achieved when the Ta-layer thickness reached 15 A.

Summary: NiO films deposited by magnetron sputtering show p-type conductivity and exhibit varying structure, morphology, and optical properties depending on growth parameters. The deposited NiO films have an average transmittance of 43-53% in the wavelength range of 400-800 nm and an optical band gap of 3.28-3.33 eV. AFM measurements reveal changes in grain size and surface roughness, while XRD patterns indicate the presence of cubic NiO and rhombohedral NiO2 phases. NiO films deposited by layer-by-layer magnetron sputtering show suitable structure and optical properties for heterostructure design with ZnO films.

Summary: We developed a HF-HiPIMS method to reduce droplet formation and improve film functionality. The effects of discharge current tail time on DLC film properties were investigated. The HF-HiPIMS method increased the sp3 C-C ratio, decreased surface roughness, and provided higher plasma density compared to the conventional unipolar HiPIMS method. The tail time was shown to be a useful parameter for controlling film density.

Summary: The Ta-doped SnO2 films were deposited at different temperatures and the effects of Ta dopants on the lattice structure and electrical properties were investigated. The substitution of Ta in the SnO2 lattice was found to improve conductivity and optical transmittance, leading to an enhanced photoelectric effect when integrated with Si.

Summary: The Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method is used in industry for non-destructive evaluation of ferromagnetic products. This study explores the use of MBN for evaluating case depth of camshaft lobes after induction hardening, and identifies limitations in the industrial monitoring practice. Utilizing metallography, microstructural features and magnetoelastic parameters are used to categorize component quality and estimate case depth.

Summary: The study found that impurities commonly seen in the synthesis of MOF-235(Fe) may be due to the simultaneous formation of MIL-101(Fe) during the solvothermal treatment. The content of MOF-235 and MIL-101 directly influences their surface area, and an optimized synthesis method can yield pure MOF-235 product and high-surface area MIL-101.
