Summary: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of inpatient and outpatient physical therapy modalities combined with spa treatments for knee osteoarthritis. The results showed significant improvement in pain scores for the outpatient group, but no significant difference in functional status and mobility tests between the two groups. Further multicenter studies with larger sample sizes may provide more conclusive evidence.

Summary: The study found that spa rehabilitation has a positive impact on functional efficiency and quality of life in patients after a stroke, with long-term effects. Short-term effects do not seem to be affected by gender, age, and time from stroke onset, while long-term effects are related to the time from stroke onset.

Summary: This scoping review investigated the possibility of using health resorts as an alternative location for managing frail patients with rheumatic diseases. The research found evidence supporting the effectiveness of spa treatments in reducing pain, improving function, and managing comorbidity in rheumatic diseases. Furthermore, spa treatments were shown to modulate inflammatory pathways and reduce proinflammatory molecules in rheumatic diseases, suggesting their potential role in regulating inflammaging in frailty. The health resort setting may also provide resources for reducing risk factors and developing prevention protocols for frailty.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between hot spa-bathing habits and mental health throughout Japan. The results showed a significant positive correlation between hot spa-bathing habits and subjective satisfaction levels regarding mental health effects. Factor analysis results indicated that hot spa-bathing habits tended to be associated with good mental health, high health consciousness, and disease. This suggests that hot spring spa-bathing habit may have a positive influence on mental health.

Summary: This study evaluated the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of mothers with perinatal depression and compared them with non-depressed mothers. The findings showed that mothers with perinatal depression reported significantly poorer scores across all domains of quality of life compared to non-depressed mothers. There was no significant difference in HRQoL scores between mothers with antepartum and postpartum depression. Mothers with perinatal depression in higher-income countries reported higher disability in role-physical and social functioning domains compared to those from lower-income countries.

Summary: This observational study reports potential adverse events following immunization with two different COVID-19 vaccines, AZD1222 and BNT162b2. The study found a higher incidence of adverse events in the AZD-vac group compared to the BNT-vac group. Fever was the most frequent adverse event associated with AZD1222, while pain at the injection site was most frequent with BNT162b2. The study also found a higher incidence of adverse events in women after receiving the BNT162b2 vaccine.

Summary: One of the characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Italy is the significant regional differences in lethality and mortality. This study analyzed the correlation between regional differences in COVID-19 mortality and different regional care models. The findings suggest that regions with more hospital beds and fewer general practitioners had higher death rates, indicating the need for a change in the current healthcare system organization.

Summary: In the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, male sex is a risk factor for severe disease and death. While there are significant differences in inflammatory markers between males and females, no significant differences were found in inflammatory cytokine concentrations. The biomarker BPIFB4 is inversely related to disease severity in males but not in females. These findings provide insights into the gender-related susceptibility to COVID-19.

Summary: Cenobamate is a new antiseizure medication used to reduce uncontrolled partial-onset seizures in adult patients. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting sodium channels and modulating the GABA ion channel. A reliable analytical method using UHPLC-MS/MS was developed to determine the dosage of Cenobamate in plasma samples, and the pharmacokinetic parameters were evaluated in two non-adult patients.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance is a serious threat to global health, requiring urgent development of new treatment strategies. Several drugs and combinations have been introduced in recent years to treat multi-drug-resistant bacteria, but their efficacy must be preserved through proper use. This paper provides an overview of the epidemiology and mechanisms of resistance of the most common MDR Gram-negative bacteria, proposing a treatment algorithm based on the latest clinical evidence for infections caused by carbapenem-resistant bacteria.

Summary: At the time of ACS hospital admission, women are older with more comorbidities than men, leading to differences in short-term prognosis. However, little research has focused on the differences in out-of-hospital management between men and women. This study found that women received fewer treatments, had fewer outpatient services, and had a lower risk of long-term clinical events compared to men. Both men and women benefited from improved adherence to clinical recommendations.

Summary: Long COVID or post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) refers to the development of persistent symptoms and/or complications in patients diagnosed with COVID-19. The pathogenesis and course of this syndrome are influenced by factors such as age, sex/gender, and pre-existing conditions. The lack of precise diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers complicates the clinical management of patients. This review aims to summarize recent evidence on the factors influencing PCS, possible biomarkers, and therapeutic approaches.

Summary: Vascular aging is associated with various factors such as reduced NO bioavailability, endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and inflammation. This study investigated the effect of MOI on vascular improvement in middle-aged rats and its involvement of SIRT1. The results showed that MOI treatment enhanced SIRT1 expression and activity, reduced oxidative stress, and reversed FOXO1 expression in the aorta, suggesting its protective role against cardiovascular dysfunction due to aging.

Summary: Oxidative stress, induced by excessive free radicals, shows gender-related differences in cellular redox state and antioxidant responses. A study investigated the efficacy of sulfurous crenotherapy in decreasing oxidant species in patients with osteoarthritis or degenerative joint disease and Vulgar psoriasis. After 2 weeks of treatment, significant clinical improvement and reduction of oxidant species were observed in both sexes, with females showing greater improvement and reduction than males.
