Summary: Cocaine consumption has increased, and it can lead to serious neurovascular complications. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to describe the clinical features and outcomes of strokes associated with cocaine use. The findings show that cocaine use increases the risk of strokes and leads to worse outcomes such as mortality, vasospasm, and seizures.

Summary: This meta-analysis investigated the association between PPAR-gamma gene polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk. The results suggested that rs1801282 C/G polymorphism may be associated with an increased risk for ischemic stroke, while rs3856806 C/T polymorphism showed no significant association with ischemic stroke risk.

Summary: The study included 28 randomized controlled trials involving 6683 participants, showing that DZSM capsule, in addition to conventional therapy, improved quality of life and clinical outcomes for stroke patients. It also positively affected hemorheology and lipid metabolism, with no reports of severe adverse events.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the relationship between phosphodiesterase 4 D (PDE4D) gene polymorphism and the risk of ischemic stroke (IS). The results showed that SNP45, SNP83, and SNP89 polymorphisms were significantly associated with increased risk of IS in Asians, but not in the Caucasian population.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis found that patients with prestroke disability who received IVT treatment had better odds of returning to baseline function compared to those who did not receive treatment. There were no significant differences in mortality and sICH rates between treated and untreated patients with disability. Further high-quality data comparing treated and untreated patients with prestroke disability are needed to clarify the issue.

Summary: PCSK9 inhibitors significantly reduce the risk of total brain stroke and ischemic brain stroke without increasing the risk of brain hemorrhage and neurocognitive impairment. There was no significant difference observed in cardiovascular mortality.

Summary: The study found a significant association between OLR1 polymorphisms in the haplotype block, especially rs1050283 and rs3736235, with the risk of CAD. It is suggested that precise determination of disease association with polymorphisms in a haplotype requires investigation of all SNPs rather than a single SNP in that specific haplotype.

Summary: In this study, it was found that CYP11B1 gene polymorphisms were closely associated with ischemic stroke in the Chinese Han population. Specifically, rs5283 was associated with an increased susceptibility to ischemic stroke, while rs6410 had a protective influence on the risk of ischemic stroke.

Summary: There is no consensus on the role of bilirubin in acute ischemic stroke. Higher levels of serum bilirubin may indicate greater oxidative stress and severity of stroke. A study found that both total bilirubin and direct bilirubin levels are positively associated with the severity of ischemic stroke, with a linear correlation observed for direct bilirubin.

Summary: This study reported the existence of a new hybrid bamboo species at a new locality in Peninsular Malaysia and analyzed the population genetic structure of the hybrid and parental populations. The hybrid population showed a high degree of genetic variability and did not adversely affect the population structure of the parental populations. Opportunities for new hybrid populations are anticipated to emerge in the wild.
