Summary: Submarine landslides can create complex seafloor relief patterns that impact subsequent flow behavior and sediment dispersal. The term mass transport deposits (MTDs) is commonly used in subsurface studies to describe a variety of processes and deposits. While large-scale morphology of submarine landslide deposits can be seen in seismic reflection data, their upper surface and impact on facies distributions and stratal architecture are often difficult to resolve.

Summary: Observations from the modern seafloor have led to investigations into sediment gravity flow behavior at the mouth of submarine channels. These investigations have revealed various types of channel mouth configurations, including traditional channel-lobe transition zones, plunge pools, and channel mouth expansion zones. Understanding the morphodynamic differences between these configurations requires a review of physical experiments, field observations, and numerical modeling. Additionally, the identification of the stratigraphic record of channel mouth settings is complicated by the propagation and avulsion of channels.

Summary: This study used computed tomography (CT) to infer the depositional conditions in the glaciogenic Champlain Sea basin. By analyzing CT-scan images and Hounsfield unit (HU) profiles, five lithologically distinct, mud-dominated stratal units were identified. All strata showed a repeating pattern of HU values. The changes in HU values within each bed indicated the variations in silt content, reflecting the waxing and waning flow conditions during a glaciogenic meltwater discharge cycle. The range of HU values and sedimentary structures suggested different sediment transport processes and changes in water composition.

This study analyzes the characteristics, distribution patterns, and sedimentary processes of lacustrine gravity flow deposits in the southern Bohai Bay Basin. It classifies twenty lithofacies into eight bed types and identifies two sedimentary processes influenced by sediment supply, basin structure, and climate. A depositional model highlighting the change from superimposed channels to anastomosing channels is established.

Summary: This study investigated the depositional architecture of sublacustrine fans and the impact of fourth-order base-level changes on their growth. It was found that sublacustrine fans were mainly caused by hyperpycnal flow during base-level rise, while slump-induced fans increased during base-level fall. The morphology of the fans transformed from significantly channelized to skirt-like during the base-level change. The study provides a geological foundation for the fine development of sublacustrine fan reservoirs.

Summary: This study successfully distinguishes the contributions of turbidity currents and mass transport, as well as their seismic expressions, through strategic forward modeling and seismic forward modeling. The results show that mass transport plays a major role in canyon initiation, while turbidity currents primarily act as the reworking process. Additionally, the study identifies different synthetic seismic facies and verifies them with actual seismic data.

This study investigates the effects of these factors on gas hydrate accumulation using high-resolution seismic data and establishes a conceptual model for predicting favorable gas hydrate zones in the area.
