Summary: A new catalyst (DFNS-SH/Au) based on thiol-functionalized fibrous nano-silica material (DFNS-SH) with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) has been prepared through a self-assembly approach. It shows remarkable catalytic activity in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol and has excellent recyclability. The synergy between DFNS-SH and Au NPs, as well as the unique fibrous structure of DFNS-SH and the strong interaction between Au NPs and thiol groups, contribute to the high catalytic performance and stability of the catalyst.

Summary: In this study, a double-crosslinked network hydrogel was constructed using chitosan and polyacrylic acid, and it was used as the functional material for preparing a modified liquid chromatographic stationary phase. The hydrogel was improved with octadecene to enhance its hydrophobicity and separation ability. The results showed that the hydrogel successfully separated polar compounds, hydrophobic compounds, and chiral compounds in chromatographic analysis.

Summary: The paper presents a method for preparing and functionalizing polymer microspheres using glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and crosslinking agents. Thiol groups were introduced into the microspheres through a reaction with thiocarboxylic acids. The chemical structure, elemental composition, and thermal stability of the microspheres were analyzed. The functionalized microspheres exhibited higher thermal stability compared to the starting microspheres.

Summary: Efficient sample pretreatment and high-performance chromatographic separation are crucial for accurate analysis of complex samples. Dendrimers, with their numerous active sites and characteristic properties, show potential for sample preparation and chromatographic separation. By functionalizing dendrimers with ionic liquid, a material called SiO2@G1.5-IL was obtained, which exhibited excellent performance in both hydrophobic and hydrophilic analyte separation.

Summary: Osteoporosis is a chronic bone disorder characterized by decreased bone mass and increased fracture risk. This study developed thiolated, bioactive mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN-SH) with antioxidant and regenerative properties for potential treatment of osteoporosis. MSN-SH exhibited high antioxidant activity, protected cells from reactive oxygen species-induced damage, and induced osteogenesis. It also inhibited osteoclastogenesis, promoted migration of osteoblast cells, and showed potential as a complementary treatment for osteoporosis. The surface modification of MSN-SH offers a simple and economical method to enhance its properties and introduce new activities.

Summary: Thiol-functionalized graphene oxide (GO-SH) was synthesized and used for efficient removal of mercury ion (Hg(II)) from water sources. GO-SH exhibited a removal efficiency of over 98%, which was approximately double that of pure GO treatment. The adsorption behavior could be well described by pseudo-second-order kinetic and Freundlich isotherm models. GO-SH also showed good stability and reusability. The adsorption mechanism involved the reaction between Hg(II) and the sulfhydryl groups on GO-SH.
