Summary: Drug-Coated Balloons have shown promising results as a minimally invasive approach to treat stenotic arteries, but recent animal studies have revealed limited, non-uniform coating transfer onto the arterial lumen. This study aimed to investigate in silico how different interventional and device parameters may affect the spatial distribution of contact pressure (CP) during the inflation of an angioplasty balloon within idealized vessels that resemble healthy femoral arteries in size and compliance. The findings suggest that the irregularity of contact between the balloon and the vessel is mainly affected by the balloon's unfolding and longitudinal thickness variation. A high ratio of balloon-to-vessel diameter, higher vessel stiffness, and thickness, as well as a higher friction coefficient at the balloon-to-vessel interface can significantly increase the amplitude and spatial distribution of the contact pressure.

Summary: The study investigated the efficacy and safety of a specific DCB with paditaxel as active ingredient and magnesium stearate as excipient in experimental coronary intervention. The results showed a significant reduction in neointimal formation without evidence of myocardial damage resulting from distal embolization.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of using combinations of trailing edge serrations and thin porous membrane/velvet structures for reducing turbulent boundary layer trailing edge noise. The results show that the combined structures are less affected by flow misalignment compared to conventional serrations. A novel combined treatment is developed, which outperforms unmodified serrations and achieves significant noise reduction in both flow-aligned and flow-misaligned conditions.

Summary: This study compared three biomaterials used in the apexification treatment of immature molar teeth in terms of treatment time, quality of canal filling, and number of X-rays taken. The results showed that Biodentine performed better in terms of treatment time. MTA Flow provided greater filling volume in the mesiobuccal canals compared to other materials. Considering treatment time and quality of root canal fillings, MTA Flow was found to be a suitable biomaterial.

Summary: Batten disease, a group of progressive neuropediatric disorders, remains poorly understood despite years of research. This review examines the advantages and limitations of various models, from animal to cell-based, for studying the disease. Patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells show promise as a new way to investigate neurodegeneration in Batten disease. Both in vivo and in vitro models have contributed to our understanding of the disease, but further research utilizing human bio samples is needed.

Summary: This meta-analysis compares the effectiveness and outcomes of drug-eluting stents (DES) and drug-coated balloons (DCB) for the treatment of small-vessel coronary artery disease (CAD), finding similar results between the two treatment strategies in clinical and angiographic aspects, suggesting that DCB may be preferred over DES for small coronary artery intervention.

Summary: Hydrogels have gained increasing interest in various fields, including their applications as immobilization matrices in (bio)catalysis and in the medical sector for drug delivery systems, contact lenses, biosensors, electrodes, and tissue engineering. Natural hydrogels from collagen, hyaluronic acid, and gelatin are known for their biocompatibility but often lack stability, reproducibility, and mechanical strength. Synthetic hydrogels, on the other hand, offer tunable swelling and mechanical properties, reproducibility, and lower costs.

Summary: The study found that out of the 11 monomers tested, 6 showed strong bactericidal activity against P. aeruginosa Xen 5. However, anionic, neutral, and zwitterionic representatives lost their function after polymerization, while cationic gels retained nearly 100% antibacterial activity. Crosslinking them into three-dimensional networks significantly increased the weak antibacterial activities.
