We developed an in situ method to prepare silica particle-containing zinc coatings on NdFeB. Silica sols with silica nanoparticles of 30-150 nm in diameter were prepared through the hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate with an acid catalyst. Zinc coatings were prepared on NdFeB magnets using plating baths that contained the silica sols. The effect of the volume content of silica sols on the zinc coatings was studied via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical analysis. The SEM results showed that the silica nanoparticles were embedded in the zinc particles. Compared with the zinc coatings that were electroplated in the other plating baths, the surface morphology of the zinc coating formed when the silica sol content in the plating bath was in a proper range exhibited better uniformity. The decrease in the corrosion current density value and the increase in the impedance value that were measured via electrochemical testing demonstrated that the embedded silica nanoparticles, which served as corrosion inhibitors, improved the corrosion resistance capability of the zinc coatings on the NdFeB magnets.

1SWASP J010313.78+352903.7: A Totally Eclipsing Binary with Components in Poor Thermal Contact

Zhihua Wang, Liying Zhu, Kai Yuan

Summary: In this study, we analyzed the photometry of an EB-type totally eclipsing binary, 1SWASP J010313.78+352903.7, observed using the Xinglong 85 cm telescope. The results showed that it is a contact binary with a relatively low mass ratio, large fill-out factor, and a large temperature difference. The light curves exhibited asymmetric variations with a maximum variability of about 9%. A double-hot spots model on the surface of the cooler secondary adequately described these variations, indicating growing and evolving hot spots possibly caused by magnetic stellar activity and mass transfer. The large temperature difference between the contact components suggests a shared non-thermal equilibrium common envelope.

Summary: Ions or charged vacancies drift induced by electric fields in organic-inorganic halide perovskites contribute to resistive switching memory (RSM) devices. Two-dimensional (2D) OIHP films are used as the switching layer to fabricate RSM devices with stable and low voltage resistive switching characteristics. The addition of a NiOx hole transport layer enhances the reliability of RSM devices in atmospheric conditions.

New results on the two low-mass-ratio overcontact binaries V1309 Herculis and AS Coronae Borealis

Azizbek Matekov, Fangbin Meng, Shengbang Qian, Ildar Asfandiyarov, Linjia Li, Shuhrat Ehgamberdiev, Liying Zhu

Summary: We present new multi-color light curves of V1309 Her and AS CrB observed by the 60 cm telescope at the Maidanak Astronomical Observatory. The analysis of our BVRCIC light curves combined with atmospheric parameters revealed that both systems are low-mass-ratio overcontact binaries. The periodic oscillations in their O - C curves were found and could be explained by the light travel-time effect of the third bodies.

Chuqi Wu, Shengbang Qian, Fuxing Li, Miloslav Zejda, Zdenek Mikulasek, Liying Zhu, WenPing Liao, Ergang Zhao

Summary: Studying massive binaries in various stages of evolution or environments can provide insights into the evolution of these systems. This study focuses on the rarely studied binaries in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), which has lower metallicity compared to our Milky Way. By analyzing the light curves, it was found that OGLE-SMC-ECL-2063 is a high mass ratio and overcontact binary in the SMC. The research on OGLE-SMC-ECL-2063 provides a basis for studying the formation and evolution of early-type contact binaries.

Period Investigation on Two W UMa Binaries HH UMa and V1175 Her

Linfeng Chang, Liying Zhu, Fangbin Meng

Summary: In this study, the periods of the W UMa contact binary systems HH UMa and V1175 Her were found to show cyclic variations, possibly due to a Light Travel Time Effect induced by a third body. The cyclic variation in HH UMa has a period of about 20 years and may be caused by a third body with a mass larger than 0.23 times the mass of the Sun. The period increase in V1175 Her, with a rate of about 2x10^(-7) days per year, indicates mass transfer from the less massive component to its companion.

Rapid capture and killing of bacteria by lyophilized nFeS-Hydrogel for improved healing of infected wounds

Bowen Shen, Wenhan Li, Yuxian Wang, Shuyu Cheng, Xiaonan Wang, Liying Zhu, Yangheng Zhang, Lizeng Gao, Ling Jiang

Summary: Sulfur-containing nanomaterials, such as nano iron sulfide (nFeS), show great promise as nanodrugs for bacterial infection due to their antibacterial activity. However, the inorganic sulfur produced by nFeS can easily change its form or volatilize in aqueous solution, affecting its efficacy. To address this issue, we propose a novel strategy of encapsulating nFeS in a hydrogel to preserve the inorganic sulfides and enhance the interaction between nFeS and bacteria. Our study demonstrates that the nFeS-Hydrogel not only effectively maintains the antibacterial activity, but also exhibits reduced inflammation and excellent biocompatibility. It has great potential as a fast excipient for clearing infection, reducing inflammation, and accelerating wound healing.
