Summary: A phenolphthalein based fluorescent probe, PHPA, with high sensitivity and selectivity towards Zn2+ and Al3+ was synthesized. The binding sites of both sensor complexes (PHPA-Zn2+ & PHPA-Al3+) were confirmed through spectroscopic methods. The probe PHPA was also used to detect intracellular Zn2+ ion in A549 cells. The AIEE properties of PHPA were studied in methanol-water mixtures with high water contents.

Summary: A dimeric quinoline-based Schiff base (DQS) was developed as a probe for the specific detection of Pb(2+) ions using fluorimetry. The binding of DQS with Pb2+ resulted in enhanced fluorescence intensity with a blue shift, attributed to the restriction of C-N rotation, C= N isomerization, and photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanisms. Moreover, intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) from an electron-donating morpholine group to a phenylene diamine acceptor linked to the quinoline bridge was responsible for the blue-shifted fluorescence enhancement in the DQS-Pb2+ complex.

Summary: Density functional theoretical calculations predicted the non-coplanar twisted geometry of two new imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives, Imp and ImBt, which was experimentally confirmed. These molecules showed aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect and could potentially be used as turn-on sensors for specific metal ions.

Summary: Here, we report an unprecedented protocol using ruthenium-catalyzed annulation for the synthesis of 6H-chromeno[4 ',3 ':4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-6-one, and a new method for intramolecular chelation-assisted C-H activation to produce functionalized 2-(3-formylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-2-yl)phenyl acetate. Furthermore, a one-pot approach using ruthenium catalysis and formic acid has been developed for the gram-scale synthesis of bis(2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3yl)methane (BIP) and the late-stage functionalization of zolimidine, a marketed drug, with good yield.
