We studied the separate and interacting effects of changes on CO2, temperature, and precipitation on the growth and yield of winter wheat in five representative sites on the North China Plain using a crop yield simulation model, known as the Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) model. The daily-maximum/minimum temperature and precipitation data obtained using a comprehensive climate model, that is, the Model for Interdisciplinary Research On Climate (MIROC), based on the scenario A1B for 2085-2100 were calibrated using a novel statistical algorithm and used as the climate change scenario in the EPIC model. The results indicated that an increase in the CO2 concentration of up to 680 ppm would increase the winter wheat yield by 24.8 and 43.1 % in irrigated and rainfed fields, respectively. Increases in the average maximum temperature of up to 4.9 degrees C and the average minimum temperature of up to 4.8 degrees C would increase the crop yield by 5.2 % in irrigated condition, but decrease it by 7.2 % in rainfed condition. By contrast, the yield of irrigated field decreased by 5.5 % when the annual precipitation increased by 317 mm, whereas that of rainfed field increased by 30.1 %. The interacting effects of simultaneous increases in the parameters were also simulated. With a constant CO2 level (370 ppm), the EPIC model predicted that the effects of temperature and precipitation on yield would be -0.9 and -1.9 % for irrigated and rainfed fields, respectively. When the CO2 level increased to 680 ppm, the interacting effect of elevated CO2, temperature, and precipitation increased the average yield by ca 23.1 % with the irrigated treatment and by ca 27.7 % with the rainfed treatment. The results also indicated that with a climate change scenario, the temperature-stress days decreased during the period of winter wheat growth whereas the nitrogen-stress days increased significantly in the North China Plain. These simulated separate and interaction simulations may be useful for identifying appropriate management or genotype adaptations of winter wheat to cope with a climate change scenario in the North China Plain.

Spatio-temporal assessing of natural vegetation regulation on SO2 absorption coupling ecosystem process model and OMI satellite data

Fen Zhao, Peng Yang, Renqiang Li, Hua Shang, Lang Xia, Mengmeng Hu, Ming Xu

Summary: Quantifying the contribution of natural ecosystems on air quality regulation can lay the foundation for ecological construction and promote their sustainable development. This study focused on quantifying the spatial and temporal changes of natural vegetation's regulation on SO2 absorption in Qinghai Province. The results showed that the natural ecosystems in Qinghai Province absorbed an annual average of 4.74 x 10(4) tons of SO2 from 2005 to 2018, accounting for about 40% of the total emissions. The spatial distribution of SO2 absorption varied across different regions, with higher absorption observed in summer.

Summary: Information on crop spatial distribution is crucial for agricultural monitoring and food security. This study proposes a novel Genetic Programming (GP) approach to learn high-level features from time series images for crop classification. Experimental results demonstrate that the GP features can improve classification accuracy and are more robust and stable compared to traditional features and deep learning methods.

Summary: Drug conjugates are substances that combine a tumor-homing carrier and a cytotoxic agent through a linker, designed to deliver a highly toxic drug directly to cancer cells to enhance treatment efficacy and reduce side effects. They have the potential to revolutionize current cancer treatment strategies. Besides antibody-drug conjugates, other types of drug conjugates have emerged that overcome limitations of antibodies.

Summary: Remote sensing is important for crop mapping, but requires a large amount of labeled data. Traditional methods for collecting ground truth data are costly and inefficient, resulting in scarce up-to-date data for crop mapping. To address this challenge, we developed an interactive and iterative crowdsourcing framework called FarmWatch. Results showed that after four rounds of sample collection, the classification accuracy reached 96.30%, indicating sufficient ground truth data for current crop mapping.

Mapping the Complex Crop Rotation Systems in Southern China Considering Cropping Intensity, Crop Diversity, and Their Seasonal Dynamics

Yuan Liu, Qiangyi Yu, Qingbo Zhou, Cong Wang, Sonoko Dorothea Bellingrath-Kimura, Wenbin Wu

Summary: This study proposes a crop rotation classification scheme that integrates temporal information into static crop maps and develops an innovative approach to map crop rotation. A typical multiple cropping region in southern China is chosen as the study area. Time series of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 images are used to identify the crop rotation systems. The results show that integrating temporal information into the classification scheme is vital for representing complex rotation systems and that remotely sensed temporal dynamics of crops are useful to characterize these systems.
