Summary: Submerged fermentation of Tuber borchii and T. maculatum produced mycelia with bioactive potential and potential toxicity. The content of polyphenols and flavonoids varied with species and fermentation time. The mycelial extracts showed antioxidant activity, and the mycelia were found to be safe for use in nutraceuticals. The mineral content varied with species and fermentation time, which could be explored for food-fortification applications.

Summary: This study focused on the recovery of phosphorus from waste activated sludge using vivianite crystallization with sponge iron as a seed material. The results showed that vivianite produced by sponge iron had larger particle size and more pronounced magnetic characteristics, making it easier to separate. The optimal conditions for vivianite formation were determined, and the phosphorus recovery process was successfully optimized with a high recovery rate.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of electro coagulation (EC) method on the treatment of rice mill waste using two different electrode materials (iron and aluminum). The study evaluates the influence of various parameters on the reduction of COD, TDS, and TSS in the waste. The results indicate that the aluminum electrode is more effective in treating rice mill waste compared to the iron electrode using the EC method.

Summary: Portugal is a major producer of chestnuts and the discarded nut shells have potential uses. The shells contain polyphenols, which can be extracted and used for various applications, including water treatment coagulants. In this study, tannin extraction from chestnut shells was optimized using a microwave-assisted method. The best extraction conditions were determined as a 5-minute extraction time, a liquid-to-solid ratio of 50 mL/g, and a temperature of 107 degrees C. The extracted polyphenols showed good features for use as raw materials in water treatment coagulants.

Summary: The aim of this study was to explore DPP-IV inhibitory peptides from Tuber sinense truffle species. A total of 4038 endogenous peptides from fresh ascocarps were identified using peptidomics analysis. Ten DPP-IV inhibitory peptides were screened and two peptides (APIKIPVGPGTL and IEDP-DAPPPPPPREVIKN) were confirmed based on ADMET analysis and molecular docking. These peptides showed excellent hypoglycemic effect in an oral glucose tolerance test. This research has important theoretical significance and practical value for further exploration of endogenous peptides in truffle species.

Summary: This study investigated the cultivation of Tuber borchii using submerged fermentation to enhance mycelial biomass, exopolysaccharides (EPSs), and intracellular polysaccharides (IPSs) production. The choice and concentration of carbon and nitrogen sources greatly influenced mycelial growth and EPS and IPS production. The optimal conditions for maximum production were sucrose (80 g/L) and yeast extract (20 g/L). The EPS produced from Tuber borchii in submerged fermentation was confirmed to be beta-(1-3)-glucan, with potential biomedical properties.

Summary: This study aimed to optimize fermentation parameters for inulinase production from Rhizopus oryzae through statistical methods, with wheat bran, temperature, pH, and incubation time found to significantly impact inulinase production. The highest experimental results for inulinase activity and specific activity were achieved at 5 days of incubation time, 35 degrees C of incubation temperature, initial pH of 5.5, and 2% (w/v) wheat bran. The purified inulinase showed excellent stability at 60 degrees C and has potential for industrial applications.

Summary: This study investigated the optimal conditions for depositing a polystyrene-block-poly (ethylene-ran-butylene)-block-polystyrene (SEBS) coating on copper surfaces using response surface methodology. The corrosion rate was evaluated using voltammetry, and the results showed that factors such as SEBS ratio, immersion time, and NaCl solution concentration significantly affected the corrosion rate.

Summary: In this study, a new strain of Tuber borchii (strain SP1) was isolated and cultured, and its transcriptome was analyzed under different in vitro culture conditions. The results showed that the highest growth of T. borchii SP1 was obtained using maltose-enriched cultures made with soft-agar and in static submerged cultures made at 22°C. The transcription profile suggests that T. borchii uses fermentative metabolism rather than respiratory metabolism in these cultures, and there is a reduced expression of genes belonging to secondary metabolite clusters, whereas there is a significative transcription of those involved in producing volatile aromatic compounds.
