Summary: Nowadays, there is a growing trend of consuming plant protein among the rising vegetarian and vegan population. The extraction of plant protein relies heavily on the solvent used, and the use of deep eutectic solvent (DES) has emerged as a sustainable and non-toxic alternative, addressing issues such as protein denaturation and environmental pollution. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the roles of extractants used for plant proteins, while highlighting the composition, physiochemical properties, and extraction processes using DES.

Summary: The paper investigates the effects of different extraction and pre-treatment methods on the properties and yields of PHA extracted from an innovative process, finding that high-pressure homogenization is the best pre-treatment method for improving extraction yield and performance of PHA films. This research has implications for optimizing PHA extraction from municipal wastewater for the production of bioplastics and other applications.

Summary: The production of PTA in bracken is proportional to biomass growth, with concentrations in soil solution exceeding levels known to pose a risk to human health. Rain events wash off a significant portion of PTA present in the canopy, and once in the soil, PTA dissipates rapidly with observed degradation rates showing a tenfold decrease with soil depths increasing from top soil to 25 cm soil depth.

Summary: Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) play a crucial role in removing microplastics (MPs) from urban wastewater. However, there is currently a lack of reliable and efficient methods for extracting MPs, especially in organic-rich matrices such as sludge samples. In this study, a two-step digestion process was developed and optimized, allowing for over 90% extraction efficiency of MPs from sludge samples. The recommended dosage of digestion reagents was found to be 100 ml 30% H2O2 + 100 ml 1 M HNO3 for samples with mixed liquid volatile suspended solids (MLVSS) levels lower than approximately 0.43 g. This study also examined the characteristics of MPs in two WWTPs in Shenzhen, revealing high concentrations of MPs in influent, effluent, and dewatered sludge, with rayon and polyester being the dominant polymers.

Summary: The study demonstrates that slow freezing, fast freezing, microwave radiation, and cold atmospheric plasma treatments can enhance the antioxidant activity of coffee bean extracts. During the treatments, the moisture content of green coffee decreased, while that of roasted coffee increased. Additionally, combinations of different treatment methods resulted in a further increase in the antioxidant activity of both green and roasted coffee extracts.

Summary: The study focuses on extracting bamboo hemicellulose using freeze-thaw assisted alkali treatment, evaluating the effect of various parameters on the extraction efficiency. By adjusting the alkali concentration and other factors, a higher purity, molecular weight, and lower polydispersity hemicellulose sample was obtained compared to conventional alkali treatment.

Summary: This study focused on the pre-treatment of gold tailings with ammonium bifluoride to enhance the extraction of remaining gold. The results demonstrated that ammonium bifluoride interacted with silica-bearing minerals in the tailings, resulting in a rougher surface and more cracks, facilitating the dissolution of occluded gold. Under the optimized conditions, the gold extraction efficiency increased by 48.45%.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in the transcriptome of the IAC1131 rice genotype in response to multiple abiotic stresses, with or without pre-treatment with ABA. The results showed that ABA treatment enhanced the changes in the transcriptome, and ABA application could help plants survive under unfavorable conditions by regulating photosynthesis functions.
