Summary: With the increasing antimicrobial resistance worldwide, it is critical to explore alternative sources of candidate molecules. This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of elecampane roots grown in Ireland, and identified sesquiterpene lactones as potential candidates for controlling staphylococcal infections. The geographical origin of the plant did not affect its antibacterial potency or chemical composition.

Summary: This study optimized the extraction conditions of polyphenols, flavonoids, and chlorophyll from peppermint and common nettle leaves using green chemistry. The use of glycerol-water systems resulted in higher concentrations of these active compounds compared to traditional solvents like water and ethanol. Extraction temperature was found to significantly influence the concentration of the components in the extracts.

Summary: In this study, the total content of phenols and flavonoids in ungerminated and germinated barley were measured. It was found that the 7-day germination time yielded the highest total phenol and flavonoid content in Esmeralda barley, while the highest content in Perla barley was observed at 5 and 7 days of germination. Different solvents were used for extraction, and the highest extraction percentage of total phenols was obtained with methanol and ethanol, while 50% acetone recovered the highest flavonoid concentrations in Esmeralda barley and 80% methanol in Perla barley.

Summary: Abrus cantoniensis is a Chinese herbal medicine known for its heat-clearing, detoxifying, and liver pain relieving properties. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that its flavonoids have important biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant effects. By optimizing the ultrasonic extraction process, researchers found that ATF has significant anti-inflammatory effects both in vitro and in vivo.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the biological functions of pure total flavonoids from Citrus maxima and its components. PTFC and its components have the potential to regulate metabolism, inhibit inflammation, suppress tumor progression, protect the intestinal barrier, and regulate intestinal microbiota. However, these effects may be influenced by factors such as fruit cultivation, picking standard, manufacturing methods, delivery system, and individual intestinal microecology. Further research is needed to enhance the effectiveness and bioavailability.

Summary: Moringa oleifera Lam. is a tree with significant antioxidant properties, making the development of an optimal extraction method crucial for obtaining pharmacological products based on its bioactive compounds. Enzymatic extraction conditions were optimized using Plackett-Burman and Box-Behnken designs, with normalized areas and relative mass as response and quantification variables, respectively. Under the optimal extraction conditions, enzyme extractions were performed and evaluated for antioxidant power, total phenolic compounds, repeatability, and intermediate precision.

Summary: Research has shown that using deep eutectic solvents as additives in extraction processes for lignocellulosic biomass can result in rich extracts of flavonoid compounds. Specifically, the mixture of choline chloride:1,4-butanediol (75 wt%) has been found to give the best results, with extracts containing the highest amount of flavonoids and exhibiting the highest antioxidant capacity. These findings confirm the ability of this DES to obtain active biomolecules for further application.
