Summary: The study presents a Ru@metal-organic framework (MOF) tandem catalyst that can directly convert monoalcohols and diols into acetals without the formation of carboxylic acids. The presence of Lewis acid sites in the MOF works together with Ru active sites to efficiently suppress the formation of over-oxidation byproducts.

Summary: Today, sustainable and clean energy conversion strategies rely on sunlight and water as sources of protons and electrons, similar to Photosystem II. However, the thermodynamics and complexity of the water oxidation reaction make it difficult to find efficient and stable molecules capable of achieving this task. Ru coordination complexes have been identified as some of the best understood water oxidation catalysts, and their catalytic performance and key factors influencing their performance have been extensively studied.

Summary: Efficient Ru(II) catalysts with substituted aniline based ligands were synthesized and their catalytic performance for the conversion of primary amine to secondary amine was investigated. Among them, [Ru-1] showed 100% selectivity and > 99% conversion without formation of any imine derivatives, suggesting its higher effectiveness compared to other catalysts. The catalytic performance of [Ru-1] demonstrated that it is one of the most active Ru(II) based catalytic systems for N-alkylation of anilines under milder and solvent-free conditions.

Summary: The facile modification of ligands in organometallic Ru(II)-arene complexes provides more opportunities for optimizing their pharmacological profiles. This study designed and synthesized three Ru(II)-arene complexes containing a GST inhibitor (NBDHEX), with in vitro results showing increased activities against tumor cells, especially in complex 3 which demonstrated the highest activity. Complex 3, with more alkyl groups in the arene ligand, exhibited increased electron density at the Ru(II) center leading to improved hydrolysis rate and higher anticancer activity.

Summary: In this study, three Ru(II) arene complexes with a bidentate benzimidazole-based ligand were synthesized and their antitumor activity was studied by varying the co-ligand X. The synthesized compounds showed good interactions with serum albumin proteins, had good drug stability and lipophilic character. They were found to bind with DNA and could induce apoptosis in cancer cells, as well as upregulate cleaved caspase-3 expression and downregulate BCLXL expression. These findings provide a new direction for the investigation of antitumor ruthenium-based metallodrugs using benzimidazole-based ligands.

Summary: New coumarin esters with Schiff base linkage and different alkyl chains have been synthesized and studied for their mesomorphic behavior. The compounds were characterized using various analytical techniques and their phase transitions and mesophase behavior were investigated. The results showed that most of the synthesized compounds exhibited enantiotropic nematic phase, and some also displayed enantiotropic smectic C phase. The relationship between the structural parameters and the mesomorphic behavior was explained using DFT theoretical calculations and compared with experimental results.

Summary: CO2 epoxidation to cyclic carbonates under mild, solvent-free conditions is a promising pathway for sustainable CO2 utilization. However, previous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) used for this purpose are not suitable for commercial utilization due to the nonrenewable ligands used. This study presents new yttrium MOFs based on renewable 2,5-furandicarboxylate (FDC) ligands, which exhibit high catalytic activity and conversion efficiency for CO2 epoxidation reactions.

Summary: This study reports a Ru(II) polypyridyl prodrug, RuAzNM, functionalized with azo and nitrogen mustard, which exhibits multimodal theranostic properties towards hypoxic cancer cells. Reduction of the azo group in hypoxic cell microenvironments leads to the generation of reactive oxygen species and mtDNA crosslinking, while the resulting phosphorescent RuNH2 serves as a diagnostic signal and activates phototherapy. This unique strategy allows controlled multimodal theranostics to be realized in hypoxic cells, making RuAzNM a highly selective and effective cancer-cell-selective theranostic agent.

Summary: A series of three new 3-(-aryl)-1,1,1-trifluoro-3-(2-phenylhydrazono)propan-2-ones were synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The introduction of different substituents on the molecules caused significant changes in the photoisomerization dynamics, with the N-H•••F-C(sp(3)) interaction playing a key role in stabilizing the Z isomer.
