Summary: A simple-operation method for designing antireflection coatings (ARCs) based on tailored refractive index characteristics of thin-film materials was developed. High-transmittance, broadband ARCs with specific refractive indices and transmittances were designed and characterized. The sensitivity of the ARCs system to manufacturing errors was simulated. The results provide valuable insights for the preparation of optical films formed via PECVD.

Summary: The electronic structure and optical properties of SiOxNy:H films enriched with silicon obtained by plasma-enhanced chemical deposition are studied. It is found that the film composition can be effectively varied by changing the gas flow ratio and plasma generator power. Additionally, the p+-Si/SiOxNy:H/Ni structures exhibit properties of memristor bipolar type.

Summary: Two thin yttrium silicate-based EBC systems were produced and tested under high temperature conditions. The systems showed satisfactory performance in furnace cycle tests, but one of them exhibited partial delamination. The presence of cracks in the YMS layer provided possible attack paths for water vapor. Rapid water vapor testing demonstrated the protective ability of a thin and phase pure YMS top layer.

Summary: An apparent kinetic model is developed to predict the deposition rates and composition of silicon oxynitride films in a novel CVD process. The model combines gas and solid-phase analysis and successfully predicts the deposition rates and composition of SiOxNy films containing non-negligible carbon. This model represents the main chemical mechanisms involved in the CVD of a four-component material.

Summary: In this paper, a novel design strategy based on mirror split rings and closed ring combined metamaterials is proposed to investigate the interaction between gas molecules and metamaterials in the terahertz regime. The strong coupling between the metamaterial and water vapor molecules' vibration mode in the atmosphere is experimentally observed by performing transmission THz-TDS measurements. The findings suggest its remarkable potential in terahertz communication research and gas sensing.

Summary: Annealing Ni/AlN/SiC heterojunction devices in an atmosphere of nitrogen and oxygen significantly improves the electrical properties of the structures, increasing the on/off ratio and decreasing the ideality factor. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy provides direct indication of the bonding structure of the AlN layer.

Summary: Coatings of pure crystalline hydroxyapatite (HA) or silicon-containing HA (Si-HA) were deposited on a ZrNb alloy surface by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. The coated samples were heated in a vacuum furnace, and the effect of Si addition to HA on the crystallization behavior and structure of the films was analyzed. The Si substitution played a major role in the mechanisms of coating formation and crystallization behavior, influencing the structure and crystallinity of the deposited layers. The surface-induced crystallization of the thin films was found to be more pronounced than internal crystallization.

Summary: The implementation of a structural material into the hot section of a turbine engine requires protection against oxidation and water vapor. In this study, rare earth silicates were used as protective coatings and combined with other layers to form an environmental barrier coating system. The coatings showed promising results in oxidation protection and completely suppressed the pesting phenomenon.

Summary: Silicon nitride (SiNx) and hydrogenated silicon nitride (SiNx:H) thin films are of widespread scientific interest due to their exceptional optical, mechanical, and thermal properties, making them versatile materials for industries such as solar, semiconductor, and coated glass production. Various deposition processes, such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), and emerging atomic layer deposition (ALD), have been used for fabricating these thin films, with each method having specific effects on the properties of the films.

Summary: The bilayer coating approach using PVOH and zein significantly enhances the water vapor and oxygen barrier properties of paper materials, reducing the transmission rates and improving thermal stability and mechanical properties. The recovered pulp from the coated paper allows for recycling, making it a potential alternative to single-use plastics.

Summary: This study successfully constructed SiO2/PEI/SiO2 composite films with a sandwiched structure by growing a SiO2 layer on both sides of PEI films, which significantly improves the potential barrier at the electrode/dielectric interface, reduces the conduction loss, and enhances discharge performance at elevated temperature.

Summary: Silicon oxynitride films grown by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition were investigated, with ammonia found to be the most efficient in achieving high nitrogen content. The balance between adsorption and desorption processes during film growth was studied by examining the growth rate as a function of substrate temperature. Optical properties of the films were thoroughly investigated using spectroscopic ellipsometry, and a parametrized model for the refractive index and extinction coefficient based on Cauchy- and Lorentz-fit was suggested.

Summary: Chemical vapor deposited SiC coatings were examined using X-ray diffraction, Raman microspectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Different (micro)structures were observed based on specific preparation conditions, showing varying levels of disorder. The coatings exhibited a columnar morphology with a preferred orientation and a faulted cubic structure.
