Summary: The survey of REiNS members showed that providing sufficient opportunities for patient representatives to engage in research tasks and fostering a respectful, inclusive atmosphere were key to their satisfaction and impact. Patient representatives were perceived to improve the organization's research by directly contributing to research tasks and indirectly influencing other stakeholders, leading to the selection of more meaningful and relevant clinical trial outcomes. Challenges to patient engagement included scheduling difficulties and concerns about the level of scientific knowledge needed to effectively engage.

Summary: The objective of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of patients with nonperimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage (npSAH) with those of patients with aneurysmal SAH (aSAH) and perimesencephalic SAH (pSAH), and to evaluate the predictive value of various clinical and radiological findings in npSAH patients. The results showed that npSAH patients had similar clinical outcomes as aSAH patients, but with significantly fewer clinical complications. pSAH patients had a favorable clinical course. The initial Hunt and Hess score emerged as an important predictor of clinical outcome in both aSAH and npSAH.

Summary: This study found that patients with oral anticoagulant-associated intracerebral hemorrhage (OAC-ICH) had lower levels of perihematomal edema (PHE) in the early stages compared to those with non-oral anticoagulant-associated intracerebral hemorrhage (NON-OAC-ICH), with NOAC patients also exhibiting significantly lower levels of edema expansion distance compared to NON-OAC-ICH patients. The increase in early PHE volume did not increase the likelihood of poor outcomes in OAC-ICH, but was independently associated with poor outcomes in NON-OAC-ICH.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed patients with community-acquired bacterial meningitis treated at a tertiary academic center between 2009 and 2019, evaluating the impact of early intracranial hemorrhage on clinical outcomes. The presence of intracranial micro- or macrohemorrhages was found to be significantly associated with poor clinical outcomes, suggesting that early cerebral hemorrhage can serve as a potential prognostic marker for clinicians managing critically ill patients with community-acquired bacterial meningitis.

Summary: This study investigated the correlation between serum myo-inositol (MI) levels and long-term clinical outcome in patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The results showed that MI levels decreased over time and the decrease was more significant in patients with unfavorable outcomes. Additionally, the MI value on day 7 was able to predict favorable outcome after 1 year.

Summary: This review article provides an overview of the epidemiology, cause, mechanisms of injury, current treatment strategies, and future research directions of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The incidence of hemorrhagic stroke has increased globally in the past 40 years, with changes in the cause over time due to improved hypertension management and increased use of anticoagulants. Preclinical and clinical trials have shed light on the underlying cause and mechanisms of injury from ICH, including the complex interaction between edema, inflammation, iron-induced injury, and oxidative stress. Although several trials have investigated the optimal medical and surgical management of ICH, there has been no clear improvement in survival and functional outcomes. Ongoing research into novel approaches for ICH management offers hope for reducing the devastating impact of this disease in the future.

Summary: This study investigated the safety and effectiveness of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) >4.5-9 hours after stroke onset and the relevance of advanced neuroimaging for patient selection. The results showed no significant difference in symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage, poor outcome, and mortality between selected stroke patients treated with IVT between >4.5-9 hours and those treated within 4.5 hours. Advanced neuroimaging for patient selection was associated with lower mortality.

Summary: The predictors of radiological complications in stroke patients with large vessel occlusion who undergo thrombectomy remain uncertain. In this study, higher NIHSS, lower ASPECTS, and longer onset-to-groin time were identified as predictors for both hemorrhagic transformation (HT) and early cerebral edema (CED). General anesthesia and good collaterals were inversely associated with HT and early CED, respectively. Longer procedure time was a predictor of early CED.

Summary: This study compared indobufen with aspirin in reducing the risk of recurrent stroke in patients with moderate-to-severe ischemic stroke. The results showed that indobufen was not non-inferior to aspirin in reducing the risk of recurrent stroke at 90 days. Additionally, there was no significant difference in the risk of moderate or severe bleeding between the two drugs. Therefore, the findings do not support the use of indobufen for secondary stroke prevention in patients with moderate-to-severe ischemic stroke.

Summary: This study aimed to determine sex differences in pain prevalence and intensity reported by participants with diverse disease states. The study found that females were more likely to report pain and experienced higher levels of pain compared to males. This study reinforces the importance of reporting sex-disaggregated analysis to identify similarities and differences between females and males that may affect disease profiles and management.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the difference in arterial stiffness (AS) between women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and healthy women, as well as the impact of different treatment modalities. The results showed that regardless of the treatment modality, pregnant women with GDM had significantly higher AS compared to low-risk pregnancies. The findings provide the basis for further research on the association between metformin therapy, changes in AS, and the risk of placenta-mediated diseases.

Summary: This study analyzed the differentially expressed miRNAs in RSV-infected patients, asthma patients, and COPD patients through miRNA profiling and integrated analysis.
