Summary: Building heterogeneous structures improves electron transport, creates synergistic effects, and overcomes limitations of single component. A label-free electrochemical immunological sensor was created using ZIF-67 to fabricate nanosheets with dual-heterogeneous structure (Co9S8/Co3C@C). Sensitivity detection of diethylstilbestrol (DES) in environmental samples (groundwater and lake water) was achieved. The sensor exhibits acceptable detection ability, wide linear response range (0.000384-6 ng mL(-1)), and low detection limit (3.24 fg mL(-1)) due to excellent conductivity of the nanosheets. The stability, selectivity, and sensitivity of the electrochemical immunosensor are satisfactory. It is an effective, practical, and quantitative detection technique.

Summary: To apply metabo-lipidomics in ophthalmological and systemic diseases, it is necessary to standardize the preanalytical and analytical steps in human tears. This study compared different methods for each step of the workflow and found that methanol/water extraction provided the best results for metabolomics, while Folch extraction was superior for lipidomics. The use of microcapillary glass tube for sampling was superior to Schirmer strip for metabolomics. A volume of 5 mu L provided satisfactory metabo-lipidomic coverage. These findings will contribute to improving the metabo-lipidomic workflow in human tears for the identification of new biomarkers.

Summary: In this study, a specific, reliable, and suitable method for a fast and simultaneous analysis of 335 pesticides in ginseng was developed using liquid chromatography quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and gas chromatography quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). The method was validated for linearity, sensitivity, selectivity, accuracy, and precision, with limits of detection (LOD) and limits of quantification (LOQ) ranging from 0.1-5.8 μg/kg and 0.3-17.5 μg/kg, respectively. Analysis of 467 ginseng samples from 2016 to 2019 revealed pesticide residues in 304 samples, but most were below the standard. The hazard quotient (HQ) of ginseng for detected pesticides was less than 1, indicating low risk.

Summary: The neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, and remyelinating properties of androgens have been well documented in demyelinated male mice and men with multiple sclerosis. However, the effects of androgens mediated by the androgen receptor (AR) in females with low androgen levels have been poorly studied. This study reveals a significant expression of AR in microglial cells in demyelinated lesions of female mice and women with multiple sclerosis, while AR expression is almost undetectable in lesions from male animals and men with multiple sclerosis. Additionally, androgens and estrogens act synergistically in female mice, with androgens driving microglial cell response towards regeneration. Transcriptomic comparisons of demyelinated mouse spinal cords show that androgens up-regulate genes related to neuronal function and myelin production, but down-regulate immune system genes in females and lipid catabolism genes in males. These findings highlight the importance of considering male-female differences in therapeutic approaches for demyelinating diseases as androgens are necessary for proper myelin regeneration in females.
