Summary: This study aims to explore the distribution differences of common risk factors between coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke in China. The study found substantial differences in the distribution of risk factors for CHD and stroke, indicating the need for specific prevention and control measures based on these differences.

Summary: The aim of this study is to estimate the incidence and identify risk factors for de novo postpartum hypertension (dn-PPHTN) among a diverse safety-net hospital population. The study found that more than 10% of patients without a history of hypertension will develop dn-PPHTN in the year after delivery. Risk factors include age >= 35 years, cesarean delivery, and smoking.

Summary: This study aims to systematically review and meta-analyze the risk factors for in-hospital stroke mortality in sub-Saharan Africa, in order to provide targeted research. The pooled 30-day in-hospital stroke mortality rate will be analyzed, with meta-regression used to assess associated factors, as well as subgroup and sensitivity analyses conducted for further insights.

Summary: A community-based survey in Sichuan, China found a high prevalence of high-risk population for stroke, with hypertension, physical inactivity, and dyslipidemia being the main risk factors. Individual and population-level interventions targeting these leading risk factors are crucial for stroke prevention.

Summary: The incidence of fecal incontinence in acute stroke patients without previous functional dependency is lower than expected, with an association of more severe and hemorrhagic strokes. Further research on underlying mechanisms is needed to develop therapeutic strategies.

Summary: The objective of this study was to describe the clinical and demographic characteristics of patients with acute cerebral infarction treated at a national reference hospital in Peru and determine the risk factors for in-hospital complications. The study included 192 patients with acute ischemic stroke and found that at least one in-hospital complication occurred in 32.3% of the patients, with infectious complications being the most frequent. The study also identified stroke severity as a risk factor and albumin greater than 3.5 mg/dL as a protective factor for the incidence of in-hospital complications.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the occurrence, risk factors, and association with cardiovascular outcomes of symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) after non-emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The results showed that age, chronic kidney disease, and prior coronary artery bypass graft surgery were associated with an increased risk of ICH after PCI. Furthermore, ICH after PCI was associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality and acute ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack.

Summary: The incidence of post-traumatic epilepsy after severe traumatic brain injury was investigated. The cumulative incidence of post-traumatic epilepsy at 5 years was found to be 25%, increasing to 32% at 15 years, compared to historical reports. Among patients with a single late seizure (>7 days post-trauma), the risk of seizure recurrence was 62% after 1 year and 82% at 10 years. Age, decompressive hemicraniectomy, and intracranial infection were identified as independent predictors of post-traumatic epilepsy. Patients with severe traumatic brain injury and a single late post-traumatic seizure are likely to require long-term antiseizure medication.

Summary: This study used national health insurance claims data from South Korea to evaluate various factors associated with the incidence of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP). The results showed that age, gender, pre-existing lung diseases, and certain hospital environmental factors were associated with the incidence of HAP.

Summary: The epidemiology and aetiology of drug-induced liver injury (DILI) vary across different countries and populations. Antibiotics are the leading cause of DILI in Western countries, while traditional Chinese medicine is the primary cause in Eastern countries. The incidence of hepatotoxicity induced by herbal and dietary supplements is increasing globally. Although several risk factors for DILI have been described, there are no confirmed risk factors for all-cause DILI.

Summary: Stroke patients are at higher risk for infections and readmission in hospitals. Acquiring infections during the initial stroke admission increases the risk of readmission and infection during readmission. Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and infections present on admission (IPOA) are predictors of readmission and infection during readmission within 60 days.
