The NCAM neuronal cell adhesion protein, with adhesion and signal functions, helps to perform two-way communication with the environment and plays an important role in the formation and development of the nervous system. Changes in the expression of this protein during antenatal and postnatal development result in the appearance of a number of psychological, neurological, and oncological diseases. We reviewed studies that showed disturbances in NCAM expression in neuropsychic (multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease), psychological (schizophrenia and bipolar disorders), and oncological diseases.

Antibodies against N-Methyl D-Aspartate Receptor in Psychotic Disorders: A Systematic Review

Alexey A. Murashko, Konstantin A. Pavlov, Olga V. Pavlova, Olga I. Gurina, Alexander Shmukler

Summary: The study found that different detection methods led to variations in the prevalence of NMDAR antibodies, with live cell-based assays potentially being more sensitive but with poorer specificity. Additionally, there may be links between AB-positive status and acute symptoms, and immunotherapy could be effective in AB-positive patients but further research is needed.

Summary: The study found that ultrasound stress can lead rats to exhibit depressive-like behavior, while treatment with clomipramine can have an antidepressant effect. Different routes of drug administration can influence the drug's impact on the metabolic profiles in the frontal cortex and hippocampus.

Summary: This review focuses on the cognitive impairment as a significant component in various psychiatric disorders and its impact on the quality of life. It summarizes the current understanding of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms of cognitive impairment in individuals with schizophrenia, depression, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia (including Alzheimer's disease). The review also provides data on the prevalence of cognitive impairment in individuals with mental illness and the associated biological markers.

Summary: Human multiforme glioblastoma is known for its unfavorable prognosis, low survival rate, and limited therapy possibilities. Rat C6 glioma serves as an experimental model for studying the growth and invasion of glioblastoma, showing changes in surrounding tissues that create a favorable environment for tumor development. Understanding the changes in normotypic cells upon contact with tumor cells is of great interest, and analysis of these interactions using LC-MS has been conducted in this study.
