Summary: The unbalanced phase ratio and adverse secondary austenite in wire arc additive manufactured duplex stainless steel were modified through post-manufacturing heat-treatment, significantly enhancing the pitting corrosion resistance and achieving a level comparable to hot-rolled 2205 duplex stainless steel. This improvement was attributed to a balanced phase ratio, absence of chromium nitride, decreased crystalline defect density, and recrystallization of austenite after heat treatment at 1300 degrees C.

Summary: Super duplex stainless steel (SDSS) is commonly used in offshore plants due to its high strength and corrosion resistance. However, microstructural variations caused by the difference in cooling rates during forging can lead to cracks and material failure. This study evaluated the influence of microstructure on the corrosion resistance of SDSS forged material and analyzed the effect of secondary phase fraction on solution and corrosion resistance. The results showed that the secondary phase decreased activation polarization and increased corrosion rate.

Summary: This study conducted detailed corrosion and microstructural studies on the fusion zone/weld metal of 2205 duplex stainless steel electron beam welded joint. It was found that the weld metal had microstructural heterogeneity, leading to higher corrosion tendency compared to the base metal. Additionally, sigma-phase precipitation during thermal aging decreased the corrosion resistance of both the weld metal and base metal. This highlights the importance of microstructural control in the root region when fabricating DSS welds.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel in sulfide-containing NaCl solutions at different pH values was investigated. It was found that the addition of Na2S could improve the pitting resistance of 2205 DSS in 0.8 g/L NaCl solutions, but had different effects in 35 g/L NaCl solutions depending on the pH value.

Summary: The effect of secondary-phase precipitation on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of hyper-duplex stainless steel during solution treatment was investigated. It was found that the precipitation of sigma phase at lower temperatures resulted in brittleness and the formation of a Cr-depleted zone, deteriorating the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Cr2N precipitation at higher temperatures decreased plastic toughness but did not significantly affect the mechanical properties as the sigma phase. The sample treated at 1100 degrees Celsius showed the best mechanical properties and corrosion resistance as there was no secondary-phase precipitation.

Summary: The corrosion resistance of solution annealing heat-treated type 2205 duplex stainless steel microstructures was evaluated using bipolar electrochemistry technique. Chemical element partitioning in both crystallographic phases was correlated to simulations of critical pitting temperatures. The study found that high-temperature solution annealing treatment can reduce pit growth rates, leading to enhanced resistance against corrosion.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of the sigma phase on pitting corrosion behavior of thermally-aged duplex stainless steel, using structural, morphological, and electrochemical characterizations. Potentiodynamic tests in 1M NaCl solution at different temperatures were conducted, along with 3D roughness image comparisons for before and after corrosion tests. The study concludes that potentiodynamic tests combined with optical profilometry are a successful approach to evaluate surface degradation mechanisms due to pitting corrosion.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of additive manufacturing and post-AM heat treatment on 2205 duplex stainless steel, revealing that post-AM heat treatment was effective in restoring the duplex microstructure and enhancing pitting resistance. The non-equilibrium microstructure dominated by delta-ferrite with Cr2N precipitation was observed in the AM specimens, which was fully recovered after post-AM heat treatment.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of mechanical rubbing on the development of pitting in duplex stainless steel, revealing that rubbing accelerated the passivation process while simultaneously causing pitting. Furthermore, an exponential increase in the length-to-width aspect ratio of pits was observed with an increase in normal load during corrosive wear tests, potentially leading to catastrophic failure in industrial applications like underground and deep ocean pipes in the oil and gas industry.

Summary: Aging treatment of UNS S32750 super duplex stainless steel at 1173 K for 1.0 ks resulted in the formation of sigma and secondary austenite phases at the boundaries of alpha and gamma phases. The steel contained a small amount of Mn-Cr oxide and MnS complex inclusions. Pitting corrosion was not observed during potentiodynamic polarization of a small area without inclusions at 348 K. However, when the electrode area was reduced, pitting corrosion occurred at the Mn-Cr oxide and MnS complex inclusions near the sigma phase.

Summary: SiCf/SiC composites fabricated through a two-step pyrolysis process and LSI process exhibit increased density, reduced porosity, and higher flexural strength compared to those fabricated through a one-step pyrolysis process. Among specimens processed with the same two-step pyrolysis, those subjected to LSI at 1500 degrees Celsius show significantly higher flexural strength than those at 1450 or 1550 degrees. Additionally, mechanical properties of SiCf/SiC specimens processed at 1500 degrees Celsius are superior to those at 1550 degrees Celsius despite similar porosity and density due to the rapid degradation of Tyranno-S grade SiC fibers at higher LSI process temperatures.

The results demonstrate that PS-PEG nanoparticles have a prolonged retention time in the lungs and are cleared through both mucociliary escalator mechanism and alveolar clearance by macrophages. Additionally, a portion of the nanoparticles translocates directly into the circulation.
