Summary: This study investigates the recrystallization mechanisms in different grain populations of the Ni-based superalloy AD730. The results show that the local microstructure affects the operative recrystallization mechanism, leading to different mechanisms in the deformed and recrystallized regions. The interaction of recrystallization with precipitates plays a central role in dynamic recrystallization.

Summary: This study successfully designed corrosion-resistant CoCrFeMoNi HEAs with single-phase structure using two strategies, and validated the effectiveness of these methods through thermal stability. The corrosion resistance of these HEAs was found to be competitive compared to Hastelloy C276.

Summary: Scandium (Sc) containing Al-Si model alloys were heat-treated to form (Al,Si)(3)Sc phase at 350 degrees C and V-phase (AlSc2Si2) at above 450 degrees C. The hardening of the alloys was attributed to the coherent nanoscale (Al,Si)(3)Sc precipitates, while significant softening was observed due to the formation of coarse V-phase. The V-phase was found to have a rod morphology and six new orientation relationships with the alpha-Al matrix were determined using TEM.

Summary: Heterostructuring is used to improve the mechanical performance of metallic materials. This study introduces "dynamic heterostructuring" through hot rolling, which is different from the traditional "static heterostructuring" by cold rolling and annealing. The dynamic recrystallization during hot rolling enhances strain hardening and increases the yield strength of the alloy.

Summary: This study investigated the evolution behaviors of beta' phases in Mg-RE based alloys, revealing that beta(s)' and beta(l)' phases can transform into different phases during ageing at 225 degrees C. Density functional theory calculations were used to rationalize the evolution behaviors, providing guidance for controlling the structure and distribution of precipitates in Mg-RE based alloys.

Summary: Secondary hot-working is crucial for microstructural modification of dual phase titanium alloys to tailor mechanical properties. However, industrial scale manufacturing often poses challenges due to a narrow processing window. Cyclic thermal treatment (CTT) is emerging as a potential technology for microstructure modification in Ti-6Al-4V, reducing mechanical work in the alpha + beta region. This study summarizes the CTT investigations conducted on wrought Ti-6Al-4V alloy to develop different initial microstructures and incorporates a JMAK model into DEFORM (R) software for microstructure evolution prediction.

Summary: This study aimed to design new Zr alloys with improved mechanical properties for nuclear applications by applying guidelines for Ti alloys development. By thorough characterization and thermal processing, duplex microstructures with primary alpha phase particles surrounded by lamellar alpha + beta structure were achieved, resulting in ultimate tensile strength exceeding 700 MPa, surpassing commercial Zr alloys for nuclear applications by more than 50%. Such strength improvement compensates for increased neutron absorption cross-section.

Summary: Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys were prepared using the gravity die-casting process, and the influence of copper addition on microstructure, mechanical and thermal properties was studied. Copper addition improved the hardness and tensile strength of the alloys, but excessive precipitates resulted in a decrease in hardness.

Summary: Three high manganese austenitic steels were prepared with different recrystallization annealing times to study their high-cycle fatigue behavior at 77 K. The fatigue strength at 77 K increased from 512 MPa to 625 MPa as the recrystallization annealing time decreased. Decreased annealing time resulted in grain refinement and increased dislocation density. Grain refinement delayed crack initiation and prevented crack propagation, while dislocation density increase promoted the formation of nanoscale voids, leading to stress relaxation and improved fatigue performance.

Summary: High-pressure torsion (HPT) was used to study the influence on phase composition, structure, and properties of Al-18% Ca alloy containing Al4Ca intermetallic. Results show that even after 5 turns of HPT, the additional hardening does not exceed 30-40 HV. The Al4Ca intermetallic undergoes noticeable plastic deformation with subgrain sizes predominantly in the range of 10-50 nm.

Summary: The effect of cold rolling on the precipitation kinetics of the hardening phase was investigated in AA2024. Cold rolling induced faster coarsening kinetics and nucleation/growth of the S-phase, resulting in lower hardness of pre-deformed AA2024-T8 compared to the undeformed state. Cold rolling also led to a fine and homogeneous distribution of hardening precipitates and a different aspect ratio of S-phase precipitates. These findings may be applicable to other precipitation-hardened alloys as well.
