Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive review of finite element modeling, predictive modeling, and optimization of welding processes. It focuses on three widely used welding methods: MIG welding, TIG welding, and FSW welding. Thermo-mechanical finite element analysis and traditional experiment design plans are found to be extremely popular in the literature.

Summary: A new dynamic stochastic optimization bioeconomic model called DairyHealthSim was developed for the dairy cow sector, aiming to address limitations found in current methods. This model integrates both biological and economic aspects, simulating the dairy production cycle and optimizing farmer input allocation decisions under constraints. DairyHealthSim provides a more precise and suitable approach for decision-making compared to methods focusing solely on the monetary impact of diseases.

Summary: The study aimed to optimize the degradation of emerging recalcitrant pollutants, using carbamazepine as a representative pollutant. Manipulation of discharge current, air flow rate, and initial concentration significantly impacted the removal efficiency and energy consumption. The findings suggest the potential application of plasma treatment in remediation of high cyclic organic chemical contaminants in wastewater, with a need for further reactor design optimization.

Summary: Spherical agglomeration is an important unit process for pharmaceutical manufacturing, but there is currently no quantitative process design to control agglomerate attributes. A new population balance model is presented to predict these attributes, incorporating all key rate processes. A parameter sensitivity analysis reveals the critical controlling parameters to be bridging liquid droplet size and bridging liquid to solids ratio (BSR). The model provides a basis for improved process understanding and quantitative process design of spherical agglomeration.

Summary: This study developed an energy consumption model for dairy skimmed milk and cream manufacturing and distribution. The model was used to simulate different manufacturing and distribution scenarios, and the results showed that up to 90.2% carbon-emission reductions can be achieved through energy transitioning.

Summary: This paper adopts a three-barrier model to describe the financial stress leading to bankruptcy of an insurer, with insurer's financial status classified into solvent, insolvent, and liquidated states. The surplus processes at solvent and insolvent states are modeled by two spectrally negative Levy processes, and the joint distribution of the time of liquidation, surplus at liquidation, and historical high of the surplus until liquidation is obtained using techniques of excursions in fluctuation theory. The results have semi-explicit expressions in terms of the scale functions and the Levy triplets associated with the two underlying Levy processes.

Summary: Nonthermal termolecular reactions have significant impacts on combustion predictions, but have not been considered in earlier model developments. This study compared model optimization with and without termolecular chemistry, and found comparable performance. Attention should be paid to sensitive conditions in the application of the models.
