Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for dementia and brain atrophy. Platelets, which store amyloid beta protein (A beta), play a crucial role in Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study investigates the impact of A beta on platelet activation in diabetes patients and its relationship with MRI findings. The findings suggest that the responsiveness of platelet activation to A beta differs in diabetes patients and may have a protective effect against brain atrophy.

Summary: This study found that obese patients exhibited significantly attenuated antiplatelet effects of clopidogrel, while high-fat diet-induced obese mice showed reduced systemic exposure of clopidogrel metabolites. In addition, the altered gene expression and potential signaling pathways in obese patients may be related to the metabolic activation of clopidogrel.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the oxidative stress biomarkers, pro-inflammatory cytokines, and histological changes induced by three cardiovascular risk factors. The results showed that hypertension, dyslipidemia, and type 1 diabetes mellitus all increased oxidative stress and inflammation, with type 1 diabetes mellitus having the most significant irreversible changes on the arterial wall.

Summary: Endothelial dysfunction is crucial in the progression of atherosclerosis and is significantly associated with diabetes mellitus and oxidative stress. Selecting appropriate therapeutic interventions that improve endothelial function is important for preventing diabetic vascular complications. Various hypoglycemic drugs and agents like GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors may improve endothelial function through multiple mechanisms independent of glucose control or insulin signaling.

Summary: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. Inflammation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of various microvascular complications of diabetes, including diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, and diabetic retinopathy. This review summarizes the evidence and molecular mechanisms of inflammation in these complications, as well as discusses the potential therapeutic use of bioactive compounds derived from plants.

Summary: This study investigated the effect and possible mechanisms of Saxagliptin (Sax) in the treatment of diabetes mellitus-induced erectile dysfunction (DMED). The results showed that Sax could alleviate DMED by increasing SDF-1 and activating the PI3K/AKT pathway, while also mitigating endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and apoptosis. This suggests that DPP-4 may be beneficial for the management of DMED.

Summary: Diabetes is a major healthcare problem, especially for pregnant women, and requires an appropriate approach. Gestational diabetes mellitus and type 2 diabetes mellitus share many similarities and induce oxidative stress and cellular stress signaling. The risk of diabetes during pregnancy can lead to complications for both the mother and fetus. Physical activity is not only important for treating the negative effects of diabetes, but also for preventing its progression and reversing changes. Regular training sessions have a positive effect on the immune status of diabetic patients, mothers, and fetuses, causing changes in immune cell levels, cytokine activation, production and secretion, as well as microRNA, which improve overall well-being.

Summary: Prevention of cardiovascular disease with low-dose aspirin may be less effective in patients with faster recovery of platelet cyclooxygenase-1 activity. Patients with accelerated COX-1 recovery exhibit reduced platelet glycoprotein Ib alpha shedding, leading to increased thrombopoietin production and the formation of platelets that are not inhibited by aspirin over 24 hours. Clinical markers including age, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, visceral obesity, and TPO/GC ratio can accurately predict faster COX-1 recovery and suboptimal aspirin response. The TPO/GC ratio may serve as a simple tool to identify patients who would benefit from more frequent aspirin dosing.

Summary: Allergic reactions to COVID-19 vaccine components are rare but should be considered. Skin tests combined with the basophil activation test (BAT) using PEG2000, PEG4000, and DMG-PEG2000 can help evaluate allergic reactions to the vaccine. The study suggests that even when the BAT is negative, a high stimulation index (SI) in basophil activation may indicate a low-grade reaction to PEG.
