Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of Se enrichment in the water-soil-plant system, as well as the dietary Se status of local residents in seleniferous areas. The results showed that Se in well water mainly came from Se-enriched shales and coals, and the mobility of Se in seleniferous soils was relatively low. The concentration of Se in edible parts of crops varied widely, with cereal plants having a higher Se-enrichment ability than tuber plants. The probable dietary Se intake in high-Se areas has decreased in recent years but still exceeds the permissible value. Reducing cereal-derived dietary Se intake is an important strategy to improve the Se nutrition status in high-Se areas.

Summary: Soil salinization negatively affects soybean production, but rhizosphere microorganisms can improve plant salt tolerance. Selenium is known to optimize the rhizosphere microbial community, and this study investigated whether selenium-induced rhizosphere microorganisms can enhance plant salt tolerance. Pot experiments were conducted using salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive soybean varieties, and the results showed that selenium application improved soybean salt tolerance by optimizing the structure of the rhizosphere microbial community. Furthermore, the application of four salt-tolerant bacteria isolated from selenium-fertilized soil led to significant increases in plant growth and reductions in stress-related compounds in salt-sensitive soybean.

Compared to avocado, papaya has a stronger potential for improving memory and learning, as well as reducing lipid peroxidation in various tissues.

Summary: The zinc coordination complex ZnMD, synthesized in this study, showed promising effects in treating hypertension and cardiac hypertrophy. It was more effective than the antihypertensive drug MD in reducing blood pressure and preventing myocardial hypertrophy. ZnMD also exhibited protective effects on the heart by reducing oxidative damage and regulating the expression of oxidative enzymes. These findings suggest that ZnMD has the potential to be developed as a therapeutic drug for hypertension and cardiac dysfunction.

Summary: This study investigates the neuro effects of lanthanides on different brain areas in rats and finds that they can distribute and accumulate in various brain regions. Treatment with cerium nanoparticles or lanthanum causes a significant decrease in norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and GABA, accompanied by a significant increase in 5-hydroxyl indoleacetic acid levels. Moreover, cerium nanoparticles exhibit high activity in scavenging free radicals.
