Summary: This study describes the electrodeposition of mirror-bright Au coatings from a cyanide-free thiosulphate-based bath. Quantum chemical calculations are carried out to study the electronic properties of potential bath additives. DABCO and NA are selected as bath additives based on these studies. The coatings deposited from the formulated bath have a smooth and compact microstructure, and their hardness decreases with an increase in current density, as shown by the nano-hardness tests.

Summary: This study investigates the use of triethanolamine (TEA) as a cyanide-free electrolyte for copper electrodeposition. The results show that TEA forms stable complexes with copper and acts as a surface modifier, promoting nucleation and lower reduction rates, resulting in smooth and homogeneous copper deposition.

Summary: In this study, the co-deposition process of silicon carbide nanoparticles in an electrodeposited metallic cobalt matrix was investigated using pulse reverse plating with the inclusion of an anionic surfactant. It was found that the addition of anionic surfactant increased the SiC content in the coatings produced by PRP.

Summary: The Ag/CNT composite plating film prepared using a cyanide-free bath showed superior electrical contact characteristics compared to a Ag plating film in a H2S gas corrosion test. The reduced amount of silver sulfide (Ag2S) generated on the Ag/CNT composite film compared to the Ag film, alongside the higher contact angle with water, likely contributed to better electrical contact resistance after the corrosion test.

Summary: In this study, silver coatings were deposited from a novel cyanide-free thiosulphate-based electroplating bath containing specific chemicals. Both LSV and EIS experiments were performed to analyze metal-complex interactions and reduction mechanisms during electroplating. Results showed that pulse galvanostatic deposition method can produce compact and adherent silver coatings with a mirror-finish appearance, suitable for aesthetic usage.

Summary: This research explores the use of pyrimidine derivatives as complexing agents in a cyanide-free silver deposition process on copper substrates. It was found that when 2,4-pyrimidinedione (Uracil) or 5-methyluracil (Thymine) was added to the plating solution, a semi-bright silver film was deposited on the copper substrates. The cyanide-free silver solution with a DMH and Uracil formulation also exhibited a high current efficiency compared to cyanide-type silver solutions.

Summary: Mirror-bright silver (Ag) coatings are electrodeposited from a cyanide-free thiosulphate-based bath with cetrimonium bromide (CTAB) as a surfactant. The presence of CTAB leads to the nucleation of Ag in the progressive mode, resulting in a continuous and uniform coating. The coatings deposited in the presence of CTAB show better resistance to tarnishing in a sulphide environment compared to those deposited without CTAB.

Summary: The role of thiourea as an organic additive in the nucleation and growth mechanism for copper deposition was studied and its application in decorative electroplating and fashion accessory industries was explored. The research showed that progressive nucleation was crucial for obtaining a shiny and homogeneous copper film, but an excess of thiourea could lead to parasitic adsorption reactions on the substrate surface. The optimal concentration of thiourea was determined to be 60 ppm for the used formulation of copper plating.

Summary: This study evaluates the influence of nickel sulphate and sodium molybdate concentrations on the electrodeposition of Ni-Mo alloys in potassium-sodium tartrate baths. The results show that the Mo content has the greatest impact on the chemical composition of the coatings. High-quality Ni-Mo coatings can be obtained with Mo content in the range of 18-44%, even higher than those obtained from citrate baths.

Summary: The study found that the addition of 4-cyanopyridine can result in bright Al-Mn coatings in ionic liquids, with superior brightening effects compared to the other two additives. The bright Al-Mn coatings displayed superior corrosion resistance relative to the matte coatings, attributed to their unique nanocrystalline structure that increased the number of grain boundaries and accelerated the formation of the protective layer of the corrosion products.
