Regression of calcinosis cutis after inkless tattoo in a patient with dermatomyositis: therapeutic potential of microneedling

Summary: Calcinosis cutis is the abnormal deposition of calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Dystrophic calcification, commonly associated with autoimmune connective tissue diseases, is the most prevalent form. A novel technique, inkless tattoo, may have potential as a therapeutic option for calcinosis cutis.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of IVIG for the treatment of dermatomyositis in a randomized, placebo-controlled trial. The results showed that IVIG treatment resulted in a significant increase in the percentage of patients with at least minimal improvement in disease activity compared to placebo. However, IVIG treatment was associated with adverse events, including thromboembolism.

Long-term effects of early pulse methylprednisolone and intravenous immunoglobulin in patients with dermatomyositis and polymyositis

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effects of pulse intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) or intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in patients with dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM) during the first year of diagnosis. The results showed that patients who received early pulse IVMP or pulse IVMP + IVIG had a higher hazard ratio for complete clinical response, while the combination of pulse IVMP + IVIG was associated with discontinuation of corticosteroids.

Case of calcinosis cutis associated with Sjogren's syndrome

Summary: Calcinosis cutis is a chronic condition characterized by calcium and phosphate deposition in the skin and soft tissues. It is associated with various conditions, including idiopathic, iatrogenic, malignant metastasis, calciphylaxis, and connective tissue diseases. This case report presents a patient with Sjogren's syndrome and calcinosis cutis, along with the progression of the condition over time. The patient's treatment regimen was optimized to prevent further progression. Informed consent was obtained from the patient to publish this report.

IFN-?: An overlooked cytokine in dermatomyositis with anti-MDA5 antibodies

Summary: Dermatomyositis with anti-MDA5 antibody is a rare autoimmune disease with life-threatening complications such as interstitial lung disease. Its pathogenesis is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve increased expression of type I interferon (IFN) and altered regulation of IFN-γ, leading to tissue damage in lungs, skin, and vessels. Understanding the role of IFN-γ in the disease could improve treatment selection and guide development of new therapies.

Treatment poses a major challenge for physicians, but the combination of high-dose IVIG and steroid pulses has shown success in reducing inflammation levels, improving symptoms, and gradually restoring allograft function in a severe case.

Management of MDA-5 antibody positive clinically amyopathic dermatomyositis associated interstitial lung disease: A systematic review

Summary: Anti-MDA5 antibody-positive clinically amyopathic dermatomyositis (CADM) is often associated with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD) and high mortality rates. The management of this condition is challenging due to a lack of sufficient data. Early initiation of a combined immunosuppressive therapeutic regimen, including high-dose systemic glucocorticoids and other immunosuppressive agents, appears to improve survival rates in RP-ILD patients. Additional therapies such as plasma exchange, tofacitinib, and rituximab may be considered for refractory cases. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes in this subset of patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the response and tolerance of brentuximab vedotin (BV) in patients with CD30-expressing cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). The results showed that BV had efficacy and safety in patients with advanced-stage mycosis fungoides (MF) and CD30+ lymphoproliferative disorders (CD30 LPD). Additionally, patients with folliculotropic MF (FMF) and Sezary syndrome (SS) also showed a favorable response.

Summary: Sensitization to MI, MCI/MI, and BIT is still common in Spain, while sensitization to OIT is rare. Sensitization to MI and MCI/MI seems to be occupationally related, while sensitization to BIT is more frequent in patients aged over 40 years. Approximately one in nine MI-positive patients were positive to BIT, and one in five BIT-positive patients were positive to MI.

Prognosis and sequelae of meth(acrylate) sensitization in beauticians and consumers of manicure materials

Summary: This study evaluated the prognosis, work performance impairment and sequelae of beauticians and manicure consumers sensitized to (meth)acrylic monomers (ACDMA) from exposure to manicure products. Results showed that 49.3% of beauticians continued to work, most patients stopped using acrylic manicure materials, reactions from dental materials were not uncommon, and reactions to sanitary napkins developing after the diagnosis of ACDMA were common, leading to discontinuation of use.

Summary: Patch testing of patients with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) revealed a high prevalence of sensitization to ethylhexyl salicylate (EHS). We propose expanding the spectrum of allergens in FFA to include EHS and consider optimizing the patch test preparation.
