Summary: Our study demonstrates a high reoperation rate and a high fistula rate in case of malignancy. The length of catheterization was high even in case of benign surgery, however, only one woman developed a fistula in the benign group, suggesting a reduction in catheterization length.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and short-term outcomes of redo laparoscopic colorectal resection (Re-LCRR) for colorectal cancer. The results showed that Re-LCRR is associated with good short-term results and can be safely performed. However, the number of harvested lymph nodes is significantly reduced compared to primary resection cases, and further studies are needed to evaluate its long-term prognosis.

Summary: This study found that a resection margin width less than 1 mm does not significantly impact OS after laparoscopic resection of CRLMs, but continues to affect RFS. Wider margins than 1 mm do not seem to improve oncological results in open or laparoscopic surgery.

Summary: This study evaluated the intraoperative utility of NIRFUC in 20 patients undergoing colorectal surgery. The ureters were clearly identified without the need for dissection, and there were no cases of ureteral injury. Fluorescence ureteral navigation using NIRFUC may facilitate colorectal surgery, especially in complex cases.

Summary: The study found that the incidence rate of ureteral injuries during open colorectal surgery is increasing over time, while the injury rates for MIS cases have been stable or decreasing. These findings remain consistent even after propensity score analysis. Further research is needed to better understand the impact of MIS and robotic-assisted surgery on ureteral injuries.

Summary: This retrospective study examined the risk factors associated with urinary tract infection (UTI) in pregnant patients with renal colic following ureteral stenting. The results showed that gestational age, positive urine culture before surgery, and stone size >= 10 mm were independent risk factors for UTI after ureteral stenting. In the infected group, Escherichia coli was the most commonly found organism, suggesting the need for preoperative anti-infection treatment based on drugs that are sensitive to E. coli.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the value of total laparoscopic simultaneous colorectal and hepatic resection in patients with synchronous colorectal cancer liver metastases. The results showed that laparoscopic surgery had longer operation time and less intraoperative blood loss compared to open surgery. There were no significant differences in postoperative morbidity and long-term survival among the different surgery groups.

Summary: Iatrogenic urinary tract injury (IUTI) is a severe complication of emergency digestive surgery. The prevention, detection, and management of IUTI in the emergency setting lack consensus. These guidelines aim to provide evidence-based recommendations for clinicians and surgeons in dealing with IUTI during emergency digestive surgery.

Summary: This study aimed to report the incidence of iatrogenic ureteral injury (IUI) during colorectal surgery and analyze the long-term consequences of urological late complications and their impact on oncological outcomes. The results showed that IUI has few consequences if recognized early, but long-term urological sequelae can occur in a third of patients and may affect the timing of adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal surgery.

Summary: This literature review aimed to assess the feasibility of laparoscopic liver resection for multiple colorectal liver metastases. The minimally invasive approach for liver cancer has become a new standard of oncological care, and laparoscopic liver resection is a significant indication for multiple colorectal liver metastases. The purpose of this paper was to highlight the novelty and updates in the field of multiple minimally invasive liver resections and discuss the feasibility and outcomes of laparoscopic concomitant multiple liver resections for colorectal liver metastases.

Summary: Introduction: Prescription opioids, including those prescribed after surgery, have greatly contributed to the US opioid epidemic. Educating opioid prescribers is a crucial component of ensuring the safe use of opioids among surgical patients. This study implemented an annual education curriculum for new surgical prescribers, resulting in significant improvements in knowledge and comfort levels. However, there remains a persistent knowledge and comfort gap among these prescribers.

Summary: This study demonstrates the potential of using humanized anti-carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) antibodies conjugated with near-infrared dyes to specifically label gastric cancers in mouse models. Orthotopic models showed bright and specific labeling with more than ten times higher tumor-to-background ratios compared to the control. This tumor-specific fluorescent antibody has promising potential as a clinical tool for improving visualization of gastric cancer margins during surgical resection.

Summary: This scoping review analyzed the literature on the use of broadband personality tests in the bariatric surgical population to optimize weight loss outcomes. The study found significant associations between personality scales and weight loss, but inconsistent reporting of outcome measures made it challenging to draw concrete conclusions. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery recommends standardization of outcome reporting to improve the reliability of predicting weight loss outcomes.
