Summary: In this work, a new strategy was adopted to simultaneously graft two different functional ligands onto the silica surface, resulting in a carbonyldiimidazolium/dodecyl dual-functionalized silica stationary phase (Sil-CDI-DD) using recycled commercial C18 columns as raw materials. The obtained Sil-CDI-DD exhibited enhanced separation selectivity and efficiency, providing multiple interaction sites for diverse target analytes and enabling the favorable resolution of hydrophilic nucleosides/nucleobases and weak polar environmental endocrine disruptors.

Summary: Amphipathic CQDs modified silica stationary phase shows typical characteristics of RPLC/HILIC, achieving satisfactory separation of both hydrophobic and hydrophilic compounds. The retention mechanism is investigated, revealing main interactions such as hydrophobic interaction, pi-pi stacking, hydrogen-bonding and electrostatic interactions under RPLC mode. This work provides a new approach for synthesis of amphipathic CQDs with great prospects in separation science.

Summary: In this study, a novel imine-linked COF@silica composite was prepared by in-situ growth of TAPT and DHTA monomers on the surface of SiO2-NH2. The composite material showed selective retention of structurally similar analytes through multiple types of analyte-stationary phase interactions, and demonstrated good separation selectivity and efficiency.

Summary: In this study, three recently developed HILIC columns were characterized in detail to compare their peptide retention mechanisms, revealing a multimodal retention mechanism in systems with these stationary phases. By balancing the properties of analytes and stationary phases, satisfactory retention and peak shape of peptides can be achieved. Buffer concentration and pH optimization was confirmed to be an effective tool for manipulating retention and peak symmetry, enhancing the potential applications of these columns in the analysis of diverse compounds.

Summary: In this study, polymerization mixture was optimized to synthesize poly(acrylamide-co-N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide) monolithic stationary phases for HILIC of intact proteins. The monolithic structure exhibited a permeable and polar stationary phase suitable for HILIC. The monolith showed superior separation performance and lower ion interaction compared to silica-based particulate amide phase, enabling successful hyphenation with high-resolution mass spectrometry in HILIC of intact proteins.

Summary: This study focuses on finding a novel material for per aqueous liquid chromatography (PALC) to reduce the use of hazardous reagents. Hydrophilic carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were prepared and decorated on silica gels to create a Si-CQDs stationary phase. The Si-CQDs column showed excellent chromatographic performance in PALC mode, even outperforming the traditional HILIC mode. It successfully separated compounds with different polarities and enabled rapid detection of residual drugs in milk and analysis of active ingredients in commercial tablets. This development has great potential for low-cost and environmentally friendly separation and analysis.

Summary: Glycoproteomics, a challenging field due to glycosylation heterogeneity, benefits from hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography for glycopeptide separation. Comparing HILIC columns in human immunoglobulin G glycopeptide separation, it was found that different columns exhibit higher separation power for different glycoforms and can effectively elucidate the structure of isomeric glycoforms. The retention mechanism for HILIC columns is discussed based on determined chromatographic parameters.
