Summary: This study explored factors associated with spiritual well-being among palliative care patients in Japan. Seven variables were found to be significantly related to worse spiritual well-being, including worse spiritual well-being on admission, younger age, hyperactive delirium, expressed wish for hastened death, poor communication among patients and families, pleural effusion, and unmarried marital status. Further research is needed to investigate factors associated with patient-reported spiritual well-being.

Summary: This single-centre prospective randomised controlled study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of dignity therapy on the spiritual well-being, demoralisation, and dignity-related distress of hospice patients. The study found that dignity therapy can help patients maintain a sense of peace and reduce psychological distress. These findings are significant for palliative care and suggest the potential clinical utility of this psychological intervention.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the interplay between two indicators of children's school peer relationships (peer acceptance and perceived number of friends) and two significant life domains (global life satisfaction and academic achievement). The researchers also investigated the potential mediating role of perceived academic competence in these relationships. The findings showed that the perceived number of friends had a direct positive effect on children's life satisfaction, while peer acceptance had a direct positive effect on academic achievement. Additionally, perceived academic competence mediated the links between both indicators of peer relationships and children's life satisfaction and achievement. This study has important implications in educational contexts.

Summary: Emotions, like regret, are considered as tools for self-regulation, but frequent experiences of regret may indicate repeated failures to improve. Low self-regulatory abilities are linked to higher regret frequency, which in turn is correlated with poorer life satisfaction. The negative impact of regret frequency on life satisfaction is mediated by ruminative brooding styles.

Summary: This study aims to explore the role of religious activities on the spiritual wellbeing of Muslim patients with schizophrenia. Through interviews and document analysis, five themes and 12 subthemes were identified. The study found that religious activities such as salah and dhikr have a positive impact on the physical and mental health of schizophrenia inpatients, while the absence of these activities leads to negative effects. The study recommends providing adequate religious materials in mental health hospitals to promote the spiritual health of patients.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the phenomenological variances of Spontaneous Spiritual and Kundalini Awakenings, comparing them to other altered states of consciousness, and exploring their impact on well-being. It found that while Kundalini Awakenings were more physical, both sets of experiences were generally perceived as positive. Additionally, temporal lobe lability and trait absorption were found to predict the experiences.

Summary: This study investigates the role of built space in palliative care and highlights the importance of building scale and physical proximity in affecting physical and social well-being. The findings suggest that a small-scale design can counter the association of palliative care with hospital environments and enhance emotional and social well-being by providing accessible communal and outdoor spaces.

Summary: Virtual reality technology has shown potential for alleviating symptoms such as pain and anxiety in hospice patients, while also providing opportunities for reconnecting with one's sense of self and finding respite by transcending reality. This exploratory study suggests that VR could be a beneficial tool for improving the emotional and psychological well-being of hospice patients, opening up possibilities for larger studies in the future.

Summary: The study uses UK panel data and the mediator model of life satisfaction to show that the impact of pro-environmental behavior on life satisfaction is mainly mediated by affect, while the relationship between green self-image and life satisfaction is more influenced by cognition. This suggests that the warm glow of pro-social actions may contribute to the association between green behavior and life satisfaction, while green self-image is predominantly a cognitive-evaluative construct.
