Summary: By adding argon to different gas flows in MICAP, the performance of the plasma can be influenced. Argon can enhance the signal of high excitation energy atom and ion lines, but also constrict the plasma core and decrease the emission intensity. Additionally, the addition of argon does not significantly reduce the structured nitrogen plasma background.

Summary: Single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (spICP-MS) has been used to determine metallic nanoparticles (NPs) in air. Different extraction strategies and extracting solvents were investigated, and a method for extracting metallic NPs from filters in 4 minutes was developed. The study also found that microquartz fiber filters had better NPs capturing performance. This method has been successfully applied to detect NPs in environmental monitoring stations.

Summary: To analyze trace evidence at crime scenes, non-destructive or low-sample analysis techniques are preferred. One such technique is solid sampling ETV-ICPOES, which requires only a small amount of sample. This article discusses the capabilities of ETV-ICPOES in forensic analysis and presents various methods for analyzing physical evidence. Internal standardization and multivariate analysis are used to compensate for sample loading effects and enable quantification and discrimination of evidence. The article also explores future perspectives for utilizing ETV-ICPOES in forensic settings.

Summary: Microfluidics coupled with ICP-MS allows for powerful quantitation procedures utilizing internal standardization and standard additions, improving determination accuracy for various sample types. The efficient coupling of microfluidic chip to ICP-MS system using a combination of commercially available components enables highly sensitive detection of metal isotopes with minimal sample consumption. High average recoveries and low relative standard deviations were achieved for determined elements across multiple matrices, showcasing the advantages of this newly developed chip-based microfluidic SDA ICP-MS technique.

Summary: ICP-MS is commonly used in life sciences for element content and speciation studies, but can also serve as a detector for immunoassays. Despite its advantages such as high sensitivity, multiplexed capabilities, and robustness, immunoassays based on ICP-MS detection are not well-known and lack significant breakthroughs in routine clinical applications.

Summary: In this study, a method based on CE-ICP-MS was established for analysis of selenium NPs and dissolved Se species in aqueous media. The analysis of a commercially available SeNP suspension revealed large amounts of selenite indicating NP degradation upon storage. The method was modified to analyze SeNPs in human plasma, demonstrating degradation of PVA-coated SeNPs to selenite.

Summary: As the use of microfluidic chips for biological samples handling increases, there is a growing demand to combine them with powerful analytical techniques such as ICP-MS. This study demonstrates the successful coupling of a chip-based supersonic microfluidic nebulizer to an ICP-MS through the use of a spray chamber with a laminar flow makeup gas. The system shows promising performance in single-particle and single-cell analysis.

Summary: There is a growing interest in dissolved gallium (Ga) in natural waters for tracking water masses, but current analytical methods are time-consuming and labor-intensive. In this study, an automated isotope dilution method was developed to determine Ga in seawater using commercially available equipment. The method addressed challenges such as sample volume and pre-concentration, instrumental interferences, sample carryover, sample recovery variability, and improved detection limits, accuracy, and precision. The new automated method showed comparable Ga concentrations to traditional methods but with greater precision and a lower detection limit.

Summary: Imaging studies using laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were conducted to analyze the presence and distribution of titanium (ionic titanium and/or titanium dioxide nanoparticles) in sea bream tissues after exposure to citrate-coated titanium dioxide nanoparticles. Calibration based on gelatine standards containing ionic titanium was used, and good repeatability and linearity of measurements were achieved. The optimized conditions resulted in a limit of detection of 0.087 μg g(-1) titanium.

Summary: Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is a powerful technique for trace element analysis of solid samples, but its full quantitative capability is limited by the complex relationships between various factors. Altering laser ablation conditions can effectively change the physicochemical properties of LA-generated particles and improve the understanding of their impact on corresponding ICPMS signals. This multidimensional particle characterization approach can comprehensively study LA-generated particles and their effects on ICPMS signals, with potential for extension to other samples and laser wavelengths.
