Summary: This study assessed the nutritional status of SARS-CoV-2 patients after the acute phase and investigated the effects of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation program on their nutritional and functional status. The findings showed that 60% of the patients had malnutrition, and an individualized nutritional intervention and aerobic exercise improved their nutritional and functional status.

Summary: Residents consuming texture-modified diets with ONS had higher intake of energy, protein, carbohydrates, and fat compared to those without ONS. However, they still fell short of their energy and carbohydrate requirements. Both groups had inadequate fibre intake and high saturated fat intake, with a significant portion of residents at risk of malnutrition.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting frailty in older adults and the moderating effects of nutritional status on frailty. In malnourished older adults, depression, SPPB scores, and cognitive function were closely related to increasing age. Malnourished older adults are more likely to suffer from physical impairment, lower cognitive function, and frailty.

Summary: The effectiveness of neurorehabilitation in stroke patients is influenced by their baseline clinical features and nutritional status. Malnutrition, either pre-stroke or due to ischemic injury, impairs rehabilitation outcomes, while a proper nutritional status promotes neuroplasticity and functional recovery. Nutrition strategies based on food components with oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties can help improve nutritional status and support satisfactory rehabilitative outcomes in stroke patients.

Summary: This study found that 28.6% of COVID-19 patients were malnourished 30 days after discharge, compared to 42.3% at admission. Early nutritional management helped some malnourished patients recover a normal nutritional status after discharge, but being transferred to intensive care units and high oxygen requirement during hospitalization were strong predictors of poor nutritional outcome.

Summary: Malnutrition is widespread among older adults, and its determinants may differ between countries. This study compared Portuguese and Turkish non-institutionalized older adults regarding nutritional status, sociodemographic, health and anthropometric characteristics. The results showed that Turkish older adults were more likely to be malnourished or at risk, while Portuguese older adults had a higher prevalence of chronic diseases. Better nutritional status was associated with younger age, higher BMI and calf circumference, and the risk factors for malnutrition included being female, older age, chronic diseases, and lower BMI or calf circumference.

Summary: The study found that in elderly patients with poor nutritional status, the severity of comorbidities, STOPP and START alerts, and BEERS 2019 criteria were significantly worse. Additionally, patients with higher MNA scores had higher estimated 10-year survival rates and lower ADR risk scores.

Summary: This study aims to identify factors contributing to stunting in children of mothers working in the ready-made garment sector in Bangladesh. The study found that improving the mother's education level, increasing household size, and receiving antenatal care are important factors in reducing the likelihood of child stunting. However, working women in the sector often face challenges such as low wages and limited access to antenatal care services. To address these challenges, the study recommends policies that support antenatal care, provide daycare facilities, and implement social safety net programs targeting child nutrition.

Summary: Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees, many of whom are at high risk of malnutrition due to poor socioeconomic status. A study on adolescent Afghan refugees in a refugee camp in Peshawar, Pakistan found high prevalence of nutritional deficiencies and micronutrient deficiencies. Urgent action is needed to include adolescents in regular screening and intervention programs to address their double burden of malnutrition.

Summary: This umbrella review of systematic reviews found strong evidence supporting the use of ginger in pregnant women for antiemetic effects, in osteoarthritis for analgesic effects, and in glycemic control. Ginger also showed positive effects on blood pressure, weight management, dysmenorrhea, postoperative nausea, chemotherapy-induced vomiting, blood lipid profile, and anti-inflammatory and antioxidant biomarkers. However, the evidence strength varied and there were limitations in intervention heterogeneity and reporting. More randomized controlled trials with standardized ginger products and adequate sample sizes are needed to better inform clinical prescription.

Summary: The study revealed that discretionary energy intake was excessive among Indigenous Australian adolescents and had relationships with sex, self-perceived health, weight satisfaction, and geographical remoteness. Males had a higher percentage of discretionary energy intake and associations with metabolic complications risk, self-perceived weight, and weight satisfaction. Further research is needed to develop sex-specific and culturally appropriate strategies to reduce discretionary food intake among Indigenous Australian adolescents.

Summary: Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has potential therapeutic effects on chronic conditions and symptoms in humans, but there is a lack of simplified examination on the underlying mechanisms, hindering interpretation and translation to practice. This comprehensive review confirms the mechanisms of ginger, such as reducing inflammation, lowering blood pressure, regulating blood lipid profile, aiding glycemic control, weight management, and reducing nausea and vomiting. Further human trials are needed to confirm its other effects and understand its therapeutic effects better.

Summary: The study found that patients choosing endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) versus laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) did not differ significantly in comorbidities, body fat percentage, or weight-related quality of life. Summary: Malnutrition is a global health concern that affects patient outcomes, hospital stay duration, and healthcare costs. While there is extensive research on undernutrition in hospitalized patients, data on overnutrition is limited. This study examines the prevalence of both under and overnutrition in a hospitalized population and evaluates the dietetic care provided to obese patients using the Nutrition Care Process Model. The findings reveal a high prevalence of overweight and obese patients, lower malnutrition risk profiles in these patients, and a lack of nutrition diagnosis following the recommended model.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the post-discharge consequences of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty in older adults admitted to inpatient rehabilitation. The findings showed that these wasting conditions were associated with lower quality of life, lower rates of home discharge, and higher rates of health service use, physical dysfunction, and mortality following discharge.

Summary: This study examined the association between disordered eating patterns (DEPs) and clinical outcomes in adults who underwent bariatric weight loss procedures. The results showed that night eating was associated with a higher number of adverse events in LSG patients, while non-hungry eating was associated with a higher number of adverse events in ESG patients. These findings suggest the need for multidisciplinary support to address these disordered eating patterns.

Summary: This study examined the effectiveness and safety of ESG and LSG weight loss procedures in the Australian setting. The results showed that LSG had higher excess weight loss than ESG at 12 months, while ESG improved quality of life and some biochemical markers at both 6 and 12 months. Both procedures achieved some success in reducing fat mass.
