Summary: The study found that collegiate wrestlers have a high drive for muscularity and engage in unhealthy behaviors to lose weight, but relatively high body satisfaction. Sport appearance pressures were the strongest predictor of drive for muscularity, while general pressures were the strongest predictor of body satisfaction and restricting eating behaviors.

Summary: Disordered eating and eating disorders significantly impact the health and performance of athletes. Social pressures and body dissatisfaction are key factors predicting bulimic symptoms, with gender and sport type moderating these relationships. Issues with measurement scales may affect the reliable assessment of athletes' experiences.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a detrimental effect on eating habits, body image, and disordered eating behaviors. This study aimed to investigate the changes in these variables among a community sample of women during the pandemic and explore the possible relation between body image-related variables and changes in eating behaviors. The findings highlight the risk factors for the development of eating disorders in non-clinical samples and have implications for prevention programs.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare disordered eating, body image, and sociocultural and coach-related pressures between athletes of different age groups and between athletes participating in weight-sensitive and less weight-sensitive groups. A total of 1003 athletes participated in the study. Results showed that vomiting, laxative misuse, and excessive exercise were more common in adolescent female athletes, while dietary restraint was more common in adult male athletes. Adolescent female athletes experienced higher sociocultural and sport-related pressures and a less positive body image compared to adult female athletes. Adult male athletes experienced higher overweight preoccupation, more disordered eating, and engaged in more frequent self-weighing behavior. When comparing weight-sensitive and less weight-sensitive sports, female athletes participating in weight-sensitive sports exhibited more disordered eating, overweight preoccupation, frequent self-weighing, and higher body-image-related pressure from coaches. The findings suggest the need for specific prevention and promotion programs for female competitive athletes and parents of adolescent female athletes, as well as programs promoting healthy eating for adult male athletes and education for coaches who train female athletes.

Summary: The study found a high prevalence of restrained eating among Chinese college students, with a strong association with body dissatisfaction and overestimation of body weight. Students with high restrained eating tended to consume fruits and eggs more frequently, but may have lower dietary diversity as a result.

Summary: The study found that negative appearance evaluation fully mediates the relationship between eating attitudes and sociocultural attitudes toward appearance. An individual's attitude toward eating affects negative body perceptions and thus their perception of their own body shape. The exploration of the specific effects of eating attitudes on body perception provides a psychological basis for guidance and developing interventions regarding attitudes toward the body.

Summary: The study aimed to identify universal sociocultural predictors of obligatory exercise among young men and women, as well as specific predictors in Polish and Chinese cultures, with a focus on the mediating role of eating attitudes. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 259 Poles and 208 Chinese aged 18 to 30. The results showed that Internalization-Athlete was a common positive predictor of obligatory exercise among young Polish and Chinese women, while Information and Internalization-Athlete were specific predictors for young Chinese men. Eating attitudes also played a mediating role, indicating cross-cultural differences.

Summary: This study examines the associations between different screen-viewing modes and body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and cosmetic surgery intention among young adults. The results show that handheld viewing is only associated with body dissatisfaction among women while online viewing is associated with greater body dissatisfaction for both men and women. Downloaded viewing is associated with higher odds of overeating behaviors for both men and women. Although total screen time is associated with greater cosmetic surgery intention for both men and women, there are sex differences in the associations with viewing modes.

Summary: The study revealed that young women in university had a higher level of body dissatisfaction compared to men. For men, factors such as BMI, physical activity score, and restrained eating score were significant predictors of body dissatisfaction, while for women, factors such as BMI, muscle mass, physical activity score, and restrained eating score were significant predictors. University students with high body dissatisfaction showed lower physical activity scores and higher restrained eating scores.

Summary: Athletes are at increased risk of disordered eating due to the complex interaction between societal expectations, lived social messages and comparisons, and sport pressures. Prevention and treatment strategies for disordered eating in athletes can be applied from experiences established in non-sporting realms.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a 5-week text message-based intuitive eating (IE) intervention on eating behaviors, self-compassion, and perceived stress. Results showed improvements in IE scores in both intervention groups, with the passive IE group showing the most improvement. The active IE group also showed significant improvement in self-compassion and reduction in perceived stress. Therefore, text-messaging interventions may be effective in enhancing intuitive eating.
