Summary: In this study, a novel rotary atomizer with micro-channel grooves is investigated using optical diagnostics. The atomization and spray characteristics are studied, focusing on the effects of air swirler orientation and injector rotational speed. Visualizations of the primary jet breakup process are performed, and the droplet size, number density, and velocity components are measured. The results show that the rotary injector has the potential to dynamically control the spray characteristics as per requirement.

Summary: The addition of metal particles to gelled fuels can improve their density, calorific value, combustion efficiency, and engine performance. However, it also complicates the rheological properties of gelled fuels, which affects their atomization and combustion. This paper investigates the effects of metal particle concentration on the rheological and atomization characteristics of gelled fuels, using different nozzle structures.

Summary: This paper studies the spray and dynamic respond characteristics of a swirl injector under different unsteady experimental conditions. The study shows that the flow pulsation and injector geometric parameters have a significant impact on the atomization features, such as the average liquid sheet thickness and spray angle. The results suggest that the liquid sheet thickness and Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) amplitude decrease in certain frequency ranges and remain unchanged in others, while both of them increase with the tangential channel diameter and swirl chamber length.

Summary: This paper describes the atomization process of a liquid sheet generated by a coaxial swirl injector and establishes a theoretical breakup model to predict the Sauter mean diameter (SMD) in the entire spray field. The validity of the model is confirmed through good agreement with experimental data, and the effects of fluid physical properties and flow parameters on the SMD are investigated. The conclusions align well with existing literature.

Summary: A novel micro-channel based rotary atomizer has been developed to produce a well-dispersed fine spray using spiraling micro-jets and a co-swirl air stream. The breakup process of liquid jets and the characteristics of droplets due to interaction with air stream have been studied. The atomizer is able to provide a nearly uniform fine spray for different flow conditions.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of different fuel types, air co-flow rates, fuel mass flow rate, and air co-flow temperature on spray characteristics. The droplet sizes and velocities of n-Heptane, n-Decane, and n-Dodecane sprays were measured using the Microscopic Diffused Back-illumination (MDBI) technique under non-reacting conditions. The predicted Sauter mean diameter (SMD) for different flow conditions was compared with experimental measurements. The findings provide valuable insights into the influence of these parameters on droplet sizes and velocities.

Summary: In this study, an alternative modelling framework to estimate the saturated hydraulic conductivity (K-sat) of soil was proposed. The framework uses the void ratio and arithmetic mean diameter to estimate K-sat. The results showed that the Sauter mean diameter performed better than other diameter indicators and PTF-based models. This study provides guidance for future empirical relationships between soil water retention curves, other soil properties, and continuous particle size distribution functions.

Summary: The spray characteristics of a liquid-gas pintle injector at different total momentum ratios (TMR) were investigated using experimental and numerical simulation methods. The study focused on the spray pattern, spray angle, droplet diameter, and spatial distribution. The results showed that the spray pattern was mainly influenced by the gas Weber number and could be categorized into three types. The spray angle was controlled by the TMR, with the outer boundary of the spray field enlarging as the TMR increased. The droplet diameter decreased in the spray intermediate area due to the aerodynamic force. The numerical calculations agreed well with the experimental results and provided useful insights into the spray characteristics.

Summary: This study analyzes the drop size characteristics of fuel sprays from a hybrid airblast atomizer using camelina and jatropha-derived drop-in aviation biofuels. Experimental work is conducted to study the details of hybrid atomization using water at different flow rates. The spray characteristics of four different drop-in aviation biofuels are then examined using the hybrid airblast atomizer. A new correlation is proposed to determine the mean droplet size of alternative aviation fuel sprays.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the incidence of unplanned readmission, identify associated risk factors, and determine the impact of unplanned readmission on long-term outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for cervical spine metastases. The results showed that 15% of patients experienced unplanned readmission, with 33% for surgical reasons and 67% for medical reasons. Preoperative radiation was associated with increased unplanned readmission rate, but readmission had no association with overall survival or local recurrence.

Summary: The study aimed to identify therapeutic options for the COVID-19 pandemic through structure-based drug repurposing. FDA-approved drugs were screened for their inhibitory effects against SARS-CoV-2's main protease enzyme (Mpro) substrate-binding pocket. Five promising candidates, including atovaquone and mebendazole, demonstrated antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2. Atovaquone was also found to potentially inhibit viral replication by targeting host purine metabolism.

Summary: Diagnostic technology based on magnetic fields is commonly used in medicine, but exposure to strong electromagnetic fields has adverse effects on patients. This study investigates the effects of external uniform magnetic fields on blood flow in healthy and diseased cases, and determines safe values for field strength. A three-dimensional non-Newtonian flow model is developed to investigate the effects of the magnetic field on shear rate and hematocrit. Numerical simulations are conducted at different field strengths and orientations, and results demonstrate the dominant effect of the magnetic field in the Y-direction.

Summary: Astigmatism is a common issue after keratoplasty, and it is important to accurately identify and characterize its type, amount, and direction. Various techniques, including corneal tomography and topo-aberrometry, can be used for evaluation, but alternative methods are available if these instruments are not accessible. Summary: Breast cancer is a common tumor type in women with a high fatality rate due to metastasis. Raf kinase inhibitory protein (RKIP) is a potential metastasis suppressor candidate, but its expression is reduced or lost in aggressive cancer variants. This study explores the role of RKIP as an anti-metastatic gene using two breast cancer cell lines with different levels of RKIP expression. The findings suggest a potential strategy to reverse the metastatic capability of breast cancer cells by chemically manipulating RKIP expression.

Summary: In this paper, new classes of operators related to polynomially normal operators are introduced. The first class is m-quasi polynomially normal operators, which includes polynomially normal operators studied in recent papers. A bounded linear operator S is said to be an m-quasi polynomially normal operator if there exists a nontrivial polynomial P and a natural number m satisfying a certain equation. The second class is called polynomially C-normal operators, which includes C-normal operators studied in other papers. An operator S is called a polynomially C-normal operator if there exists a nontrivial polynomial P and a conjugation operator C satisfying a certain equation. The paper presents a detailed study of certain properties of the first class of operators and gives an introduction to the second class.
