Summary: In this study, a method to improve the dispersion of graphene in rigid poly(vinyl chloride) matrix using a plant extract from Curcuma longa L. is proposed. The use of the proposed extract as a dispersant resulted in improved dispersion, mechanical properties, thermal stability, and glass transition temperature of the nanocomposites. This suggests that the extract can be a promising eco-friendly additive for the production of nanocomposites with enhanced homogeneity.

Summary: The study investigated the antimicrobial and anti-biofilm activity of C. longa L. rhizome extract against biofilm producing S. aureus and P. aeruginosa isolates, demonstrating promising antibacterial activity with various curcuminoids and other bioactive compounds. Turmeric extract showed significant inhibition of biofilm formation in clinical isolates, suggesting its potential as a natural antibiofilm and antibacterial agent.

Summary: This study revealed the anticancer potential of petroleum ether extract from Curcuma mutabilis rhizome (CMRP) and a labdane diterpenoid compound called Cm epoxide. Both CMRP and Cm epoxide exhibited superior antiproliferative activity against various human cancer cell lines through induction of apoptosis. The compounds were found to be pharmacologically safe in acute toxicity assessment using a Swiss albino mice model.

Summary: The aim of this study was to compare how different types of thermal treatment affect the content of curcuminoids and the antioxidant properties of turmeric. The results revealed that traditional boiling process was the most beneficial in terms of curcuminoid content (204 mg/g of curcumin) and antioxidant activity of the samples.

Summary: Turmeric and its constituent curcuminoid compounds have been traditionally used for their medicinal properties. Recent studies have confirmed their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticarcinogenic properties. Our research in Hawaii suggests that turmeric yield is influenced by genotype and environmental factors, with suboptimal temperatures at high elevations impacting yield. However, high yielding turmeric varieties show adaptability across diverse environments, but further evaluations are needed in non-optimal environments and high pest pressure areas.

These findings suggest the potential application of CLE as a preventive agent for obesity.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Fufangmuniziqi formula (FFMN) on Alzheimer's disease (AD) and the role of alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins in the process. The results showed that FFMN improved cognitive and memory impairment in the AD mouse model. Alkaloids enhanced the cholinergic system, while flavonoids and saponins attenuated neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. These findings suggest that the combination of alkaloid, flavonoid, and saponin fractions derived from FFMN is a promising anti-AD agent.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the hepatoprotective effects of Shicao on CCl4-induced acute liver injury. A rat model of acute liver injury was established and liver function indices were assessed. Untargeted metabolomics was conducted to identify differential metabolites. Network pharmacology was used to construct a network of metabolite-reaction-enzyme-gene constituents, and key components and hub genes were screened. Shicao showed hepatoprotective effects against acute liver injury in rats.
