Summary: After the accidental discovery of cis-platinum, extensive research has been done on designing metallic compounds for cancer treatment. A solvent-dependent complex of nickel (II) with 1,10-phenanthroline and naproxen has been synthesized and its in vitro DNA binding and cytotoxicity on cancer cells have been studied. The results show that the complex has better inhibition on HT 29 cancer cells compared to cisplatin, but lower inhibition on HEK-293 normal cells.

Summary: Two complexes [Mn(Hmpth)2(bpy)] (1) and [Mn(Hmpth)2(o-phen)](2) with 1-(4-methoxybenzoyl)-4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide (H2mpth) as ligand and 2-2'-bipyridine (bpy) or o-phenanthroline (o-phen) as co-ligand were synthesized and characterized. The optoelectronic properties of Mn(II) complexes were investigated for the first time, showing that complex 1 has higher fluorescence intensity than H2mpth and complex 2. The thermal behavior and electrochemical characteristics of the complexes were also studied. Cyclic voltammetry analysis revealed a reversible one electron transfer process for the Mn2+/3+ redox processes.

Summary: The article describes the synthesis and characterization of two nickel complexes of 2-acetylpyrazine thiosemicarbazone, and studies their antibacterial activities. It was found that one of the complexes showed effective antimicrobial activity against tested bacteria, and that complex 2 exhibited inhibitory activity against human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells. Additionally, toxicity study showed that complex 2 had the highest tumor cell selectivity.

Summary: The p53 protein is crucial for cancer prevention, and restoring p53 function through disrupting the p53-MDM2 interaction shows promise as a non-genotoxic anticancer therapeutic strategy. A novel series of molecules with a 1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol scaffold was successfully discovered, with some compounds exhibiting good inhibitory activity and one compound showing strong antitumor activity.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of methyl and phenyl substituents in specific positions of the phen ligand on the structural and photophysical properties of [W(CO)(4)(phen-type)] complexes. The substituents significantly influence geometrical parameters, particularly the (OC)(eq)-W-(CO)(eq) angle, affecting the photophysical properties. The perturbation of the (OC)(eq)-W-(CO)(eq) angle induced by the substituents in the phen ligand plays a crucial role in determining the photophysical properties of these complexes.
