Acrylamide Induces Mitophagy and Alters Macrophage Phenotype via Reactive Oxygen Species Generation

Chih-Hsing Hung, Yi-Ching Lin, Yi-Giien Tsai, Yu-Chih Lin, Chia-Hong Kuo, Mei-Lan Tsai, Chao-Hung Kuo, Wei-Ting Liao

Summary: Acrylamide promoted mitochondria-specific ROS generation, increased gene expression of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II SDHA, induced histone modifications and upregulated PINK1 expression, leading to a macrophage M2 polarization shift in THP-1 cells.

Genetic Variants in Transcription Factor Binding Sites in Humans: Triggered by Natural Selection and Triggers of Diseases

Chia-Chun Tseng, Man-Chun Wong, Wei-Ting Liao, Chung-Jen Chen, Su-Chen Lee, Jeng-Hsien Yen, Shun-Jen Chang

Summary: Variants of TFBS play a crucial role in regulating gene expression in the human genome, impacting human phenotypes through various mechanisms. However, challenges persist in studying such polymorphisms.

IL-25 Induced ROS-Mediated M2 Macrophage Polarization via AMPK-Associated Mitophagy

Mei-Lan Tsai, Yi-Giien Tsai, Yu-Chih Lin, Ya-Ling Hsu, Yi-Ting Chen, Ming-Kai Tsai, Wei-Ting Liao, Yi-Ching Lin, Chih-Hsing Hung

Summary: This study demonstrates that IL-25 stimulation induces ROS production and promotes M2 macrophage polarization in monocytes by activating AMPK and inducing mitophagy.

Arsenic Induces M2 Macrophage Polarization and Shifts M1/M2 Cytokine Production via Mitophagy

Chih-Hsing Hung, Hua-Yu Hsu, Hsin-Ying Clair Chiou, Mei-Lan Tsai, Huey-Ling You, Yu-Chih Lin, Wei-Ting Liao, Yi-Ching Lin

Summary: Arsenic can promote macrophage polarization to M2 type, resulting in the epithelial-mesenchymal transition of lung epithelial cells. This study found that arsenic induces repolarization of M1 macrophages to M2 macrophages through the autophagy/mitophagy pathway.

New-onset inflammatory arthritis after COVID-19 vaccination: A systematic review

Cheng-Che Chen, Chung-Jen Chen

Summary: New-onset inflammatory arthritis after COVID-19 vaccination is more common in females and older patients. Although COVID-19 vaccines may lead to inflammatory arthritis, the benefits of vaccination substantially outweigh the potential risks of such serious adverse effects due to their rarity.

Simultaneous Determination and Stability Analysis of Ten New Psychoactive Substances including Synthetic Cathinones, Phenethylamines, and Ketamine Substitutes in Urine Using Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Feng-Shuo Yang, Hei-Hwa Lee, Li-Ping Tseng, Yung-Hung Lee, Yung-Sheng Lan, Yi-Cheng Lee, Yi-Cheng Chou, Yi-Ching Lin

Summary: This study investigated the stability of ten new psychoactive substances (NPSs) in urine and methanol/water at different storage temperatures. The results showed that some substances exhibited excellent stability in urine, even after storing for 90 days at different temperatures. However, for synthetic cathinones, the concentrations declined over time in urine but remained relatively stable in methanol with 0.1% formic acid.

Ming-Kai Tsai, Mei-Lan Tsai, Zhi-Hong Wen, Wei-Ting Liao, Yi-Ching Lin, Hsin-Ying Clair Chiou, Ming-Hong Lin, Chih-Hsing Hung

Summary: This study demonstrated that 4-PSB-2 has an anti-inflammatory effect on CCL-1 production, possibly through intracellular signaling pathways and epigenetic regulation.
