Differential mitochondrial proteomic analysis of A549 cells infected with avian influenza virus subtypes H5 and H9

Summary: Proteomic analysis revealed differential expression of mitochondrial-related proteins in A549 cells infected with H5N1 and H9N2 viruses. Specifically, the upregulation of eight mitochondrial proteins in the H5N1 group led to host T cell activation, antigen presentation, stress response, ATP synthesis, and reduction in cell apoptosis compared to the H9N2 group, suggesting a mechanism for the higher pathogenicity of H5N1.

An immune-enhanced multivalent DNA nanovaccine to prevent H7 and H9 avian influenza virus in mice

Summary: A study has developed a novel H7 avian influenza virus (AIV) DNA nanovaccine by encapsulating the DNA in dendrigraft poly-l-lysines nanoparticles. The results show that this nanovaccine has enhanced stability and immunogenicity, eliciting stronger humoral and cellular immune responses compared to the naked DNA vaccine.

Airborne Avian Influenza Virus in Ambient Air in the Winter Habitats of Migratory Birds

The findings shed light on the adaptation and mutation of the virus in poultry and increase our understanding of its evolutionary pathways.

Patterns of Avian Influenza A (H5) and A (H9) virus infection in backyard, commercial broiler and layer chicken farms in Bangladesh

Summary: This study aimed to explore the prevalence of avian influenza virus (AIV) in rural and peri-urban live bird markets (LBMs) in Bangladesh and identify associated risk factors. The results showed that the cleanliness and biosecurity measures in rural and peri-urban LBMs were significantly poor, leading to a high prevalence of AIV in Bangladeshi LBMs. Therefore, it is recommended to enhance surveillance and biosecurity practices in live bird markets in rural and peri-urban areas of Bangladesh to prevent the transmission of AIV to humans and wild birds.

A multiplex real-time RT-PCR method for detecting H5, H7 and H9 subtype avian influenza viruses in field and clinical samples

Summary: In recent years, H5 and H7 subtypes of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) have caused significant economic losses in poultry production worldwide, while the low pathogenic H9N2 avian influenza viruses (AIVs) have posed potential pandemic risks. This study developed a multiplex real-time RT-PCR method for accurate and sensitive detection of H5, H7, and H9 subtypes of AIVs in the Eurasian lineage. The method demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity, with consistent results in clinical and field samples.

Summary: Paramyxoviridae is a rapidly growing family of viruses, and it is difficult to predict the harm of newly emerging viruses to humans and animals. By analyzing the genomes of porcine parainfluenza virus (PPIV), a new species named PPIV-2 was discovered, and a revision of the species classification criteria for the Respirovirus genus was proposed. Recombination events and high genetic diversity were found in PPIV-1, indicating the importance of recombination in the diversity of the Respirovirus genus.
