Summary: In this study, mutants of E. aerogenes were constructed using different strategies to enhance hydrogen production by regulating NADH supply. The hydrogen yields of the mutants IAM1183-E, IAM1183-L, and IAM1183-EL increased by 23.3%, 81.7%, and 97.9%, respectively, compared to the wildtype strain. Overexpression of the pncB gene also led to increased hydrogen yields in the mutants. The strain IAM1183-EL/P exhibited the highest production efficiency with a 58% higher total hydrogen yield than the wildtype. Metabolite analysis revealed that the mutants with nuoE and ldhA gene deletions, combined with pncB overexpression, resulted in a redistribution of metabolic fluxes, leading to improved hydrogen yield.

Summary: This study developed a deep learning model for automated arteriovenous fistula (AVF) stenosis screening based on AVF blood flow sound, validated by ultrasound. Contextualizing the sound with location metadata was found to be important as the sound characteristics varied significantly along the AVF. The best model was a vision transformer trained on spectrogram images. The model achieved a performance level comparable to a nephrologist's physical exam, with the advantage of automation and scalability. Automated AVF stenosis screening can enhance patient safety, streamline dialysis workflow, and serve as a patient-facing tool for at-home self-screening in resource-limited clinical settings.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of fidelity on the capability of digital twins (DT) to detect two common material extrusion (MEX) failures: extrusion error and layer shift. It explores the monitoring of the failures using an image-based DT as a benchmark. The fidelity-performance analysis of DTs with different levels of fidelity is studied, and the effects of varying the fidelity attributes on the capability to detect printing failures are analyzed and discussed. It is shown that lower-fidelity DTs can deliver comparable capability to high or ultra-high fidelity DTs, with additional benefits in terms of cost and time.
