Adopting an Environmental Management System can offer firms a number of benefits, but also runs up against some difficulties. Firms need to weigh up these benefits and difficulties to evaluate their investment in such a system. This work aims to examine the use of Environmental Management Systems in a strategic sector in Spain: its automotive industry. We identify the main benefits firms obtain from these systems, and the difficulties they face in their implementation and certification. The literature offers homogenous results for the difficulties, but not for the benefits, which are conditioned by the sector and country under analysis. We obtain data via a questionnaire from 228 firms including manufacturers and suppliers. We then carry out a factor analysis to determine the latent constructs relating to benefits and difficulties. According to our results, the benefits of these systems are improvements in the firm's market position, stakeholder relations, and environmental performance, and access to environmental technologies. The difficulties are the requirements of the system, the organisational structure and commitment of the human resources (managers and workers), and the environmental information in terms of establishing objectives, calculating outcomes and establishing workers' environmental responsibilities. The origin and evolution of the concept of servitization: a co-word and network analysis

Maria-Jose Pinillos, Eloisa Diaz-Garrido, Maria-Luz Martin-Pena

Summary: This paper analyzes the origins and evolution of the concept of servitization by studying the definitions provided in the literature. The lack of consensus among scholars regarding the concept is highlighted, and a proposed definition aims to provide a common understanding for practitioners and researchers. The study emphasizes the importance of standardized vocabulary in servitization research and offers predictions for future progress in this area.

Service design through the emotional mechanics of gamification and value co-creation: a user experience analysis

M. Luz Martin-Pena, Cristina Garcia-Magro, Jose Maria Sanchez-Lopez

Summary: Service design is a practice that views service-dominant logic (S-D logic) as co-creative and human-centered. Integration with other approaches that encourage continuous interactions with users is needed for the operationalization of S-D logic. Gamification's emotional mechanics can facilitate these interactions and create an environment for value co-creation. This study aims to analyze the impact of gamification's emotional mechanics on service design and value co-creation experiences. Through structural equation modeling, the study validates a theoretical framework that combines human-centered design and value co-creation, contributing to the literature on service design, gamification, and value co-creation. It can also be used as a practical tool for customer engagement.

Determining factors and alternatives for the career development of women executives: a multicriteria decision model

Maria Luz Martin-Pena, Cristina R. Cachon-Garcia, Maria A. De Vicente y Oliva

Summary: Despite progress, the glass ceiling remains a barrier for women in corporate decision-making. Previous theoretical studies have examined factors and career alternatives for women's professional development, but lacked analysis on causal relationships and implications. This paper fills that gap by exploring determinants and consequences of women executives' career development using a sample of Spanish women. It contributes to gender management literature by enhancing theoretical foundations and providing companies with empirical understanding of women's career development.

Comparison of ethane recovery processes for lean gas based on a coupled model

Xing Liu, Qiuchen Wang, Yunhao Wen, Long Li, Xinfang Zhang, Yi Wang

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

A novel deep-learning framework for short-term prediction of cooling load in public buildings

Cairong Song, Haidong Yang, Xian-Bing Meng, Pan Yang, Jianyang Cai, Hao Bao, Kangkang Xu

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, which can serve as an effective guide for HVAC chiller scheduling and demand management initiatives.

Summary: This study uses survey data from the Loess Plateau in China to evaluate the impact of social interaction on the adoption of soil and water conservation (SWC) technology by farmers. The study finds that social interaction increases the likelihood of farmers adopting SWC, and internet use moderates this effect. The positive impact of social interaction on SWC adoption is more pronounced for farmers in larger villages and those who join cooperative societies.
