The purpose of this paper is to identify the main themes of Green Procurement (GP) in the private sector through a literature review of papers published between 1996 and 2013 and to develop some future research directions. GP research has garnered interest from academics and industry alike. This is demonstrated by the increasing number of academic papers published in recent years. This literature review builds on the three themes in the adoption of GP identified from the literature: 1) the motivation and drivers for the implementation of GP; 2) barriers to the implementation of GP; 3) the performance impacts of the adoption of GP. Given that there are distinctive features of the private sector, compared to the public sector, this analysis focuses on GP in the private sector. The approach to GP holds important implications for managers, by directing limited resources towards projects which intersect both environmental performance and economic performance. The article discusses interesting findings, develops a conceptual framework of GP and suggests a number of directions for future research. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Outsourcing decision-making in global remanufacturing supply chains: The impact of tax and tariff regulations

Summary: This study develops a two-stage game model to investigate the impact of tax and tariff regulations on the decision-making of OEMs in remanufacturing. The results show that the optimal remanufacturing model is significantly affected by tax and tariff regulations, particularly the difference between sales tax on remanufactured products and import tariffs on new products. The study emphasizes the importance of considering tax and tariff constructs in decision-making models, optimizing the strategic business deployment of OEMs, and policy considerations by the destination country.

Comparative analysis on R&D internationalization under economy-level technological disparities and ownership-specific technological differences

Summary: This study investigates the disparities in R&D internationalization between latecomers from different economies and firms with different technological capabilities in the wind turbine industry. The findings suggest that latecomers from technologically advanced economies behave similarly to early leaders in terms of international co-invention but show differences in native ownership of foreign inventors. Latecomers from economy-level technological disparities also exhibit significant differences in both international co-invention and native ownership of foreign inventors.

Comparison of ethane recovery processes for lean gas based on a coupled model

Summary: This study analyzes the characteristics of process parameters in three lean gas ethane recovery processes and establishes a prediction and multiobjective optimization model for ethane recovery and system energy consumption. A new method for comparing ethane recovery processes for lean gas is proposed, and the addition of extra coolers improves the ethane recovery. The support vector regression model based on grey wolf optimization demonstrates the highest prediction accuracy, and the multiobjective multiverse optimization algorithm shows the best optimization performance and diversity in the solutions.

A novel deep-learning framework for short-term prediction of cooling load in public buildings

Summary: The paper proposes a novel deep learning-based prediction framework, aTCN-LSTM, for accurate cooling load predictions. The framework utilizes a gate-controlled multi-head temporal convolutional network and a sparse probabilistic self-attention mechanism with a bidirectional long short-term memory network to capture both temporal and long-term dependencies in the cooling load sequences. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, which can serve as an effective guide for HVAC chiller scheduling and demand management initiatives.

The impact of social interaction and information acquisition on the adoption of soil and water conservation technology by farmers: Evidence from the Loess Plateau, China

Summary: This study uses survey data from the Loess Plateau in China to evaluate the impact of social interaction on the adoption of soil and water conservation (SWC) technology by farmers. The study finds that social interaction increases the likelihood of farmers adopting SWC, and internet use moderates this effect. The positive impact of social interaction on SWC adoption is more pronounced for farmers in larger villages and those who join cooperative societies.
