Summary: In this study, PLLA films were surface-modified using different solutions, leading to changes in their structure and properties. The modification with PDLA weakened the crystal structure of the films, while modification with PDLAG increased the stereocomplex (SC) structure and decreased the homogeneous crystal (HC) structure.

Summary: This study developed a transcription factor (TF)-based whole-cell biosensor strategy for the determination of L- and D-lactic acid. The utility of biosensors as an efficient analytical tool was demonstrated, and the fermentation of lactic acid using organic-rich residual fraction (ORRF) was explored. The results showed that Lacticaseibacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis, and Lactobacillus amylovorus have the ability to biosynthesize optically pure L-lactic acid, D-lactic acid or a mixture of both from ORRF.

Summary: In this study, selective formation of stereocomplex (sc) crystallization and suppression of homocrystallization (hc) in high-molecular-weight (HMW) PLLA/PDLA blends were achieved by adding C70 as a nucleator. Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy analysis revealed improved intermolecular interactions and inhibited molecular chain diffusion and mobility, leading to accelerated sc crystallization. The addition of C70 also resulted in a higher thermal stability compared to the neat PLLA/PDLA blend.

Summary: In this study, we performed synthetic experiments and kinetic modeling calculations to investigate the polycondensation process of lactic acid and the formation of poly(lactic acid) (PLA). The results showed that under optimized conditions, PLLA with a weight-average molecular weight of 161 kDa could be obtained. The kinetic parameters obtained from the optimization accurately reproduced the experimental data.

Summary: The blends of poly(D-lactic acid) and poly(L-lactic acid) (PDLA/PLLA) exhibit higher crystallization rate and mechanical strength than individual PDLA or PLLA due to the formation of stereocomplex crystals (SC). SC serves as an effective nucleating agent for PLA homochiral crystals (HC). However, the morphology of SC in asymmetric blends and its effect on the crystallization behavior of HC remains unclear. In this study, PDLA/PLLA blends with different weight ratios were prepared using different methods to obtain SC with different morphologies. The results showed that SC morphology influenced the formation of HC, with fibrous and banded SC inhibiting HC formation, spherical SC enhancing HC formation, and network structure SC significantly accelerating the crystallization rate of HC.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of environmental pH on the degradation of a ternary composite layer. The results showed that the degradation process of both the neat polymer and composite layers was poor under standard air conditions, distilled water, and 0.1 M HCl solution. However, erosion of the surface layer stored in 0.1 M NaOH solution was observed after 6 days. The longer storage in 0.1 M NaOH solution resulted in complete degradation of the polymer layer, while the composite layer survived for up to 62 days. Admixtures of 5CB and SWCN were found to accelerate the degradation of the polymer in the composite layer and act as plasticizers.

Summary: Enantiomers of lactic acid in Baijiu were analyzed, and their concentrations and distributions were studied in different types of Baijiu and with different aging years. The results showed significant variations in lactic acid content and enantiomeric ratios among different aroma types and aging years. Lactic acid enantiomers contribute to the taste perception of Baijiu, with D-lactic acid playing a more significant role.

Summary: In this study, a brominated functionalized covalent organic framework (COF-Br) with high crystallinity and stability was synthesized, and a chiral COF (COF-l-Phe) was successfully constructed using the post-synthetic modification strategy. The chiral recognition ability of COF-l-Phe was verified, and COF-l-Phe-modified capillary columns were used for the separation of racemic phenylalanine. This work provides guidance for constructing chiral COFs for chirality related applications.

Summary: In this study, an ionic covalent organic framework (iCOF) surface grafting monolithic sorbent was prepared for in-tube solid-phase microextraction (SPME) of aristolochic acids (AAs) in various samples. The density of quaternary ammonium ions in the iCOF was modulated for enhanced adsorption of AAs. The iCOF surface grafting monolithic sorbent was confirmed by different means. Several operating conditions were optimized to develop the online in-tube SPME-HPLC method, which showed good linearity, low limits of detection, and high recoveries for AAs in serum samples. This study presents a feasible approach for the application of COF-based monolithic sorbents in sample preparation.
