Summary: In this study, a rapid, sensitive, and low-cost method for the simultaneous quantification of ten pentacyclic triterpenoids (PCTs) was proposed. High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was used with porous graphitic carbon (Hypercarb) as a stationary phase capable of specific interactions with analytes. The method successfully separated all target analytes within 8 minutes and achieved limits of detection in the range of 4-10(4) mu g/L. It was validated and applied to the determination of PCTs in various plant samples.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficiency of different clean-up sorbents for analyzing dithiocarbamates in soybeans, finding that silica was an effective and inexpensive sorbent for removing matrix components without losing CS2. The method had a limit of quantification of 0.05 mg CS2 kg(-1) and both GC-ITD-MS and GC-PFPD systems were suitable for determining dithiocarbamate residues in soybean extracts.

Summary: This study characterized the oligosaccharide fingerprints of different varieties of Codonopsis Radix (CR) and found that they contained inulin- and levan-type fructooligosaccharides (FOS) with variations in relative levels among the varieties. Through combined analysis, it was possible to accurately classify and identify the different CR varieties.

Summary: The study explored the chemical characteristics of mountainous forest cultivated ginseng (MFCG) and garden ginseng (GG) in terms of their ginsenosides and oligosaccharides. Results showed differences in the distribution of ginsenosides and oligosaccharides between GG and MFCG, related to the age and cultivation environment of the ginseng. The study provides insights into the quality control criteria for GG and MFCG.

Summary: In this study, eight unknown pentacyclic triterpenoids and eight known analogues were isolated from the dried whole plant of Leptopus chinensis. The new compounds showed hepatoprotective effects, with compounds 2, 5, and 16 demonstrating potent protective effects on t-BHP-induced oxidative injury. Further research revealed that compound 16 significantly alleviated t-BHP-induced hepatotoxicity by improving cell viability and reducing ROS generation and cell apoptosis rate in HepG2 cells.
