Summary: This study found that chronic administration of exogenous adiponectin can restore nitric oxide as the mediator of flow-induced dilation in arterioles from patients with coronary artery disease. The Adiponectin Receptor 1 (AdipoR1) plays a critical role in adiponectin-induced NO signaling during shear. Additionally, osmotin, a plant-derived protein, showed similar effects to adiponectin.

Summary: Using swine as an experimental model, this study investigated the modulation of vasomotor tone in isolated pial arteries by cannabinoid receptors (CB1R and CB2R). The results showed that CB1R mediated vasorelaxation in an endothelial-dependent manner. Furthermore, the study revealed that CB1R-mediated vasorelaxation was endothelial-dependent and involved different endothelial-dependent pathways.

Summary: The study reveals the crucial role of endothelial TrxR2 in regulating the steady-state concentration of peroxynitrite and maintaining vascular integrity. Deletion of the TrxR2 gene leads to increased vascular stiffness, hypertrophy, and renal abnormalities. Loss of TrxR2 results in elevated peroxynitrite levels in both vascular endothelial cells and vessels, indicating a potential disruption of vascular homeostasis.

Summary: Researchers designed a macrophage microvesicle-inspired nanovehicle to improve the distribution of therapeutic agents in tumors for chemo-radiotherapy. The nanovehicle released an active compound, oxaliplatin, in response to the acidic environment within cancer cells, and was activated by glutathione to produce the reactive species, peroxynitrite. This nanovehicle showed significant accumulation, permeation, and accessibility to cancer cells in tumor tissues, and exhibited superior efficacy in improving the spatiotemporal distribution in tumors compared to common reactive oxygen species. Its use in chemo-radiotherapy led to notable inhibition of tumor growth in animal models.

Summary: Peroxynitrite plays a crucial role in regulating the nitro-oxidative environment during dark-induced leaf senescence in Arabidopsis. It selectively modifies bio-targets including proteins and nucleic acids. The formation of peroxynitrite coincides with the decrease in nitric oxide emission during leaf senescence. Different amino acids and nucleotides in proteins and nucleic acids are nitration targets of peroxynitrite, and this modification has a significant impact on protein biosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism.

Summary: Ageing is associated with reduced production of nitric oxide in the femoral artery. This study examined the endothelium-dependent relaxation in the saphenous artery and its caudal branches. The results showed that ageing decreased the responsiveness of the arteries to specific agonists and the sensitivity to nitric oxide.

Summary: Lightning strikes cause nitrogen to dissolve in water, forming reactive nitrogen and oxygen species that act as natural fertilizers. Plasma-activated water (PAW) has the potential to produce various dissolved reactive chemical species. The antialgal effect of PAW is influenced by ions such as NO2-, NO3-, and H2O2, as well as secondary reactive ions. The pH around the algal cells plays a significant role in the antialgal mechanism.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of the traditional herbal formula Ma Huang Tang on blood pressure and vasodilation in a rat model of induced hypertension. The results showed that Ma Huang Tang induced vascular relaxation dose-dependently by activating the nitric oxide/cGMP pathway, suggesting potential therapeutic benefits for hypertensive patients.

Summary: The release of NO upon photodissociation of nitroaromatic compounds is influenced by the interaction between the NO2 group and substituent in the ortho position. Two distinct NO elimination channels are observed with a bimodal translational energy distribution of the NO photofragment. The hydrogen bonding ability of the ortho substituent regulates the ratio of slow-to-fast branching for NO release, with OH and NH2 favoring the roaming mechanism.
