Summary: Conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation (CNOP) is a useful tool in studying atmosphere and ocean predictability problems. This study proposes a new initial guess selection scheme (PAIG-CNOP) to improve the probability of capturing the global CNOP. Numerical experiments show that the PAIG-CNOP method has a higher probability of capturing the global CNOP than the traditional RIG-CNOP method.

Summary: Assessment and treatment pathways based on FRAX-based intervention thresholds in Chile can effectively identify high fracture risk patients and avoid unnecessary treatment for those at low fracture risk. The application of hybrid intervention thresholds helps to address the disparity in fracture probabilities observed with age-dependent thresholds.

Summary: This work proposes a rigorous mode-selection criterion based on the theory of spectral submanifolds, which allows for the reliable projection of governing nonlinear equations onto modal subspaces. By identifying critical linear normal modes associated with high curvature SSMs, the mode selection is automated and demonstrated to accurately reproduce forced-response curves in various examples, including high-dimensional finite-element models.

Summary: This study examines the onset of thermal convection in an anisotropic horizontal porous layer heated from below and rotating about a vertical axis under the assumption of local thermal non-equilibrium. Both linear and nonlinear stability analyses of the conduction solution are conducted, showing a coincidence between the linear instability and the global nonlinear stability thresholds with respect to the L-2-norm.

Summary: This study examines the impact of resource dependence on economic development in prefecture-level cities in China. The results show that resource blessing and resource curse exist in different regions, where resource blessing benefits growing resource-based cities while resource curse traps declining resource-based cities. Additionally, resource dependence has a negative short-term effect on economic development but a positive long-term effect. The study suggests that resource dependence hinders industrial upgrading and R&D, while the accumulation of human capital is crucial to break the resource curse.

Summary: The study compared the performance of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS) and optimal stratification (OS) defined handgrip strength thresholds in predicting the survival of patients with lung cancer, finding that OS-defined thresholds showed better performance. Additionally, handgrip strength had an n-shaped association with overall mortality among female patients with lung cancer.

Summary: The study examines the relationships between motorcyclists' sensation seeking, risk perception, fear, and risk handling behavior. It finds that sensation seeking has both negative and positive effects on different aspects of risk handling behavior. The mediating role of risk perception and fear on sensation seeking and risk handling behavior is not supported. The findings provide insights into the factors influencing motorcyclists' risk behavior.

Summary: Research on the applications of microdosimetry in particle therapy is increasing globally, requiring the analysis of data with a standard procedure. The lower detection threshold affects dose-mean lineal energy values and can lead to different RBE values. Linear extrapolation to a common value significantly reduces deviations in mean values due to different lower thresholds.

Summary: The study defines the auxiliary linear operator as La and generalizes it based on the zero roots of La = 0. By determining the best-fitted optimal La using the optimization technique, the study ensures and speeds up the convergence of the semi-analytical homotopy perturbation series solution, renaming it as Optimal and Modified Homotopy Perturbation Method (OMHPM). Three strongly nonlinear differential equations associated with fluid dynamics are considered to explore the dependencies of the optimal La and the convergence of the solution on various parameters. The results show that OMHPM is highly accurate and efficient compared to HPM, optimal HAM, and Domain decomposition optimal HAM. Additionally, OMHPM is a simple approach applicable to singular/non-singular highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations without the need for decomposition, linearization, artificial controlling parameters, or discretization.
