Summary: By utilizing the electric field of solid-state nanopores, the translocation time of short single-stranded DNA molecules can be prolonged, leading to improved recognition accuracy of their double-stranded duplexes. Wang et al. successfully slowed down and controlled DNA translocation speed by 5 orders of magnitude by generating a leakage field at the nanopore tip.

Summary: Mutations in mitochondrial genes causing impaired energy production can lead to mitochondrial diseases and increase susceptibility to bacterial infections. This study reveals that impaired mitochondrial respiration facilitates bacterial entry, while enhanced mitochondrial energy metabolism reduces infection efficiency. Furthermore, mitochondrial respiration affects endocytic recycling and plays a crucial role in infection process.

Summary: This paper investigates the issue of automatically asynchronous MPI communication in memory-bound parallel programs on multicore clusters and proposes methods to improve performance, such as deliberately injecting delays to slow down MPI processes. It introduces phase-space graphs as a new tool for visualizing parallel program dynamics and demonstrates their effectiveness in identifying patterns that may be overlooked by traditional tracing tools. The study includes experiments with five different microbenchmarks and applications on various supercomputer platforms.

Summary: Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are advanced semiconductor materials for optoelectronic device development. Delaying the relaxation time of hot carriers (HCs) can enhance solar conversion efficiency. In this study, the surface of CsPbX3 (X = Br/Cl) NCs was treated with hexadecylamine (HDA) molecules, and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy was used to analyze the HC relaxation dynamics and ultrafast carrier dynamics. The results show faster ultrafast carrier relaxation with increasing Cl content in CsPbX3 NCs (X = Br/Cl). HDA-passivated CsPbX3 (X = Br/Cl) NCs exhibit slower ultrafast carrier relaxation and longer HC relaxation time compared to pristine NCs. Understanding the charge-carrier relaxation dynamics in CsPbX3 (X = Br/Cl) NCs can aid in the design of efficient optoelectronic devices.

Summary: Psychological factors can influence both psychological and physiological performance. In a study, it was found that performance improved during a physical exercise when the clock shown to the subjects was deceptively slowed down, without significant difference in neuromuscular fatigue. Computational modeling showed that the improvement in performance was explained by subjective time rather than actual time, challenging our understanding of fatigue.

Summary: We developed a novel platform called CREST that can simultaneously execute multiple RNA modulation functions on different RNA targets. By appending RNA scaffolds to Cas13 gRNA and fusing cognate RNA binding proteins with enzymatic domains, we achieved manipulation of RNA. Additionally, we reconstituted the enzyme activity of ADAR2 at target sites by fusing split fragments of its deaminase domain to dCas13 and/or PUFc, reducing off-target events significantly.

Summary: In this study, inelastic light scattering spectra of organic-inorganic halide perovskite MAPbCl(3) single crystals were investigated using Brillouin spectroscopy. The results revealed the sound velocities, acoustic absorption coefficients, and temperature dependences of elastic constants of MAPbCl(3) in the cubic phase, providing important insights into its structural and mechanical properties.

Summary: Mutations, such as KRAS G13D, can influence sensitivity to specific cancer treatments by affecting the binding to tumor suppressor proteins. This study suggests that impaired binding to NF1 can define a subset of RAS mutations that exhibit sensitivity to EGFR inhibition, providing potential biomarkers for personalized medicine. By identifying these biophysically defined subsets of mutations, there may be benefits in transitioning from traditional genetic biomarker strategies to more precise biomarkers based on molecular interactions.

Summary: The dynamics of the contact line in a triple-phase system of silica/oil/water were investigated, revealing a significant decrease in contact line velocity upon the addition of cationic surfactants. A model was derived to successfully explain the selected contact line velocity, and it was demonstrated that the increase in friction coefficient with surfactant concentration is due to the nonlinear adsorption isotherm.

Summary: The study identified novel open reading frames (nORFs) in cancer transcriptomes, showing extensive dysregulation at the transcript level and potential prognostic value. A subset of nORFs were associated with overall patient survival. Additionally, nORF products were found to form protein-like structures and in silico screening identified potential inhibitors against nORF-encoded proteins disrupted in stomach and esophageal cancer.

Summary: Top-down proteomics combined with bioinformatics approaches can improve the localization and quantification of protein modifications, even for positional isomers with the same number of modifications at different sites. This method shows promising results in characterizing multiple modified proteins and estimating the stoichiometry of phosphorylated sites.
