Background: ADHD is a common, heritable disorder of childhood. Sex chromosome abnormalities are relatively rare conditions that are sometimes associated with behavioral disorders. Method: The authors present a male child with ADHD and a major de-novo Y chromosome abnormality consisting of deletion of the long arm and duplication of the short arm. It is possible that the Y chromosomal abnormality is causing the ADHD syndrome in this boy. Conclusion: Considering this case and considering that (a) ADHD is more common in boys than in girls, (b) the transmission of some genes associated with ADHD may occur preferentially from fathers rather than from mothers, and (c) ADHD is more common in children with XYY syndrome and Turner's syndrome than in other children, the authors propose that the sex chromosomes may contain risk genes for ADHD. Review: systematic review of effectiveness of art psychotherapy in children with mental health disorders

Irene Braito, Tara Rudd, Dicle Buyuktaskin, Mohammad Ahmed, Caoimhe Glancy, Aisling Mulligan

Summary: This study reviewed the evidence on art therapy and art psychotherapy in children attending mental health services. The findings suggest that there is some evidence supporting the benefits of these therapies for children who have experienced trauma. Further research is needed, particularly replication studies in different locations.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of school closures during the pandemic on the mental health of children in Ireland. The results indicated that there was no significant change in the average mental health measures among the 35% of respondents in 2020, suggesting that they were not adversely affected by the pandemic.

Summary: This study found that measures such as commission and omission errors, standard deviation of response time, tau, d-prime, and mu derived from the fixed Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) were able to successfully classify children with and without ADHD. These findings have important implications for future studies on ADHD.

Identity-by-descent analysis of a large Tourette's syndrome pedigree from Costa Rica implicates genes involved in neuronal development and signal transduction

Niamh Ryan, Cathal Ormond, Yi-Chieh Chang, Javier Contreras, Henriette Raventos, Michael Gill, Elizabeth Heron, Carol A. Mathews, Aiden Corvin

Summary: This study investigates the genetic variants associated with Tourette Syndrome (TS) in a Costa Rican family through whole-genome sequencing analysis. The researchers identified rare variants that were not present in controls and were linked with risk haplotypes in the family. These variants are enriched in pathways related to locomotion and signal transduction, suggesting their role in TS risk. The study highlights the importance of investigating both coding and non-coding variants in understanding the genetic basis of TS.
