Summary: This study aimed to update the research evidence regarding the effect of outpatient geriatric evaluation and management (GEM) on survival and nursing-home admission compared to conventional care. The results showed that outpatient GEM led by a geriatrician with a multidisciplinary team improved overall survival, particularly during the 24-month follow-up period, with a trivial effect on nursing-home admission.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of Occupational Therapy Diabetes Self-Management intervention (OTDSM) in improving glycemic stability and self-management skills in individuals with type-2 diabetes. The results showed significant differences between the intervention and control groups in terms of hemoglobin A1C levels, self-management behaviors, self-efficacy, and performance and satisfaction with daily routines (P < 0.05). Inclusion of occupational therapy protocol in the care plan for people with diabetes can lead to improved health outcomes by promoting their involvement in self-management activities.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that monitoring pancreatic islet autoantibodies and genetic risk assessment can identify most children who will develop T1D, with immunotherapy and primary prevention methods showing success in delaying disease progression. By shifting focus towards early diagnosis and b cell preservation, a future without daily insulin injections for children with T1D is anticipated.

Summary: The nurse-led smartphone-based self-management programme (NSSMP) is equally effective as the traditional nurse-led diabetic service (NDS) in improving self-efficacy, self-care, and quality of life for patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes. NSSMP can save valuable time for nurses and support healthcare resource constraints during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of surgical intervention on 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) in children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The results showed that there was no significant improvement in ABP after surgery, except in children with severe OSA. The improvement in blood pressure was partially masked by the weight gain following surgery.

Summary: This review evaluates the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapy for treating sciatica and finds that acupuncture is more effective than medicine treatment in improving the total effective rate, reducing pain scores, increasing pain threshold, and decreasing recurrence rate. However, due to high heterogeneity and low methodological quality of previous studies, future well-designed RCTs are needed.
