Summary: In this study, the antiproliferative activities of trans-Anethole towards human liver cancer (HepG2), cervical cancer (HeLa) and breast cancer (MCF-7) cells were explored. The results showed that trans-Anethole exhibited strong antiproliferative potential towards HepG2 cells and induced apoptosis by upregulating the protein expressions of p53, Caspase-3, and Caspase-9.

Summary: The study found that exposure to SiO2 NPs affects protein expression even if cell morphology remains unchanged. Long-term exposure to SiO2 NPs leads to changes in reactive oxygen species levels, eventually inducing HepG2 cell death.

Summary: Curcumin is a natural plant component with significant in vitro anticancer effects. However, its bioavailability is limited. This study investigates the transportation mechanism of Curcumin-loaded zein-pectin core/shell nanoparticles (En-CUR) into Caco-2 cells and the inhibitory effects of En-CUR on HepG2 cell proliferation. The results show that En-CUR is taken up by Caco-2 cells through multiple endocytic pathways. En-CUR treatment leads to increased apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, and mitochondrial dysfunction in HepG2 cells. These findings suggest that En-CUR is a promising delivery system for Curcumin and exhibits superior anticancer effects.

Summary: This study evaluated the anti-cancer effect and mechanism of action of SiNPs in breast cancer cell lines. The results showed that 5-15 nm SiNPs induced dose-dependent cytotoxicity in MDA-MB-231 and ZR-75-1 cells, and also induced apoptosis through decreasing mitochondrial membrane potential and increasing the activity of caspase-9 and caspase-3. Additionally, these nanoparticles caused an increase in selected oxidative stress parameters in breast cancer cells.

Summary: The study found that Peucedanum praeruptorum Dunn extract (PPDE) has a significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation of HepG2 human hepatoma cells, while having little effect on normal liver cells. PPDE inhibits intracellular oxidative stress in cancer cells by increasing antioxidant enzyme activity and regulating gene expression.

Summary: Acetochlor, a widely used chiral herbicide, can induce toxicity in human liver cells primarily through its S configuration, leading to cell apoptosis. The study provides a theoretical basis for reducing the impact on human health through the production of single pesticides.

Summary: The study evaluated the cytotoxic effect of different EOCs-functionalised silica particles on HepG2 cells, showing that the functionalised particles had a stronger cytotoxic effect compared to traditional silica particles. Differences in cytotoxicity between functionalised particles may be attributed to the density of the functional components on their surface.

Summary: Melatonin has anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory effects on hepatocellular carcinoma cells, by arresting cell cycle at G0/G1 phase and increasing the expression of P53 gene. However, caution should be taken to avoid the development of drug resistance.

Summary: Scorpion-venom-derived peptide Smp24 exhibits inhibitory effects on liver cancer cells HepG2 through endocytosis, pore formation, interaction with mitochondrial membrane, mitochondrial dysfunction, apoptosis, and alteration of autophagy-related signaling pathways. Smp24 also shows protective activity in a liver cancer mouse model.

Summary: The study hybridised natural diosgenin with a benzoic acid mustard pharmacophore, resulting in the synthesis of compounds with potent anti-proliferative activity against HepG2 cells, while exhibiting weak cytotoxicity against normal GES-1 cells. Compound 14f showed promising anti-hepatoma potential by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in HepG2 cells through the regulation of cell cycle and apoptosis pathway-related proteins.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of chemically functionalized nanoparticles on human stem cells, finding that the stem cells exhibited similar growth and viability levels on all types of nanoparticles with morphological changes observed. Gold nanoseeds nanoparticles showed slight genotoxic effects on stem cells but did not impact their behavior.

Summary: Polyphenols are natural compounds with anti-tumorigenic effects. This study designed and synthesized a compound that interferes with the cell cycle progression in aggressive prostate cancer. Further experiments showed that the compound inhibits the viability of prostate cancer cells and induces apoptosis through oxidative stress. In a mouse model, the compound showed no toxicity and reduced the tumor burden.
