Summary: The study introduces a new nonlocal gradient method DGS for optimizing highly multi-modal loss functions. However, the method is currently limited to unconstrained optimization problems, while this research extends the method to constrained inverse design frameworks to achieve better design outcomes.

Summary: In this study, eco-friendly flame retardants, PA-PEI and PA-Arg, were prepared and characterized. They were incorporated into P/15B biocomposites to enhance their flame retardancy. The results showed that the incorporation of PA-PEI or PA-Arg improved the char residues and fire resistance performance of the P/15B-based biocomposites. The P/15B/PA-Arg series exhibited better mechanical properties and higher levels of flame retardancy than the P/15B/PA-PEI series.

Summary: The article investigates the control method based on the equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) estimator and the Luenberger state observer, revealing the two-degree-of-freedom nature of the control system. It provides an analysis of bandwidth constraints on the inner loop, a coordinated design algorithm, and a comprehensive comparison with disturbance observer (DOB) based control systems. Studies on various plant types validate the developed design algorithm for EID-based control systems.

Summary: A series of 4-amino coumarin-based succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors (SDHIs) were designed and synthesized. These compounds showed broad-spectrum antifungal activity against various plant pathogenic fungi in vitro. Among them, compounds 3n and 4e displayed excellent activity against Alternaria alternata and Alternaria solani.

Summary: This paper presents a novel satellite layout optimization design (SLOD) approach based on the phi-function, which offers a simple and accurate way to handle geometry constraints. The method effectively prevents overlap and controls distance between components, with the extension of a finite-component-boundary (FCB) method. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is demonstrated through numerical examples and SLOD applications.

Summary: This study proposes a multiscale and multi-material topology optimization model for thermoelastic lattice structures (TLSs) using the Extended Multiscale Finite Element Method (EMsFEM). The model considers mechanical and thermal loading and aims to minimize strain energy and structural mass. By applying the Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization (SIMP) interpolation scheme and the modified volume preserving Heaviside function (VPHF), the micro-scale multi-material selection and clear identification of the truss microstructure are achieved. Compared to single-material TLSs, the multi-material topology optimization yields superior structural designs. Numerical examples also investigate the influence of temperatures, size factor, and mass fraction on the optimization results.

Summary: In the presence of design parameter uncertainties, a system-level robust design optimization method is proposed for a permanent magnet motor to enhance the dynamic and steady performances of the motor drive system. The influence of individual motor parameters on transient system responses is investigated through Taguchi experimental planning. The temperature-dependent material property of each motor component is examined, and the motor drive system is then optimized using the univariate dimension reduction method to ensure robustness against manufacturing tolerance and operating temperature fluctuation.

Summary: This paper focuses on the optimization problem of the pressure hull of an underwater glider to improve energy efficiency. A hybrid genetic simulated annealing algorithm (HGSAA) is used to optimize the pressure hull of the underwater glider developed by Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), and the effectiveness of the optimization results is verified through tests. The sea trial results demonstrate a 21.9% decrease in energy consumption for buoyancy regulation and a 12.4% increase in total carried energy after the optimization of the pressure hull.

Summary: Optimization is a crucial area of research in Engineering that can result in cost savings and improved structural safety. Composite structures, which are often complex, require the use of the Finite Element Method for evaluation. Robust Design Optimization (RDO) is an approach that considers uncertainty in design variables or material properties to achieve robust and lightweight solutions. This study combines the advantages of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) with fitness assignment methodologies and elitist strategies to obtain a more perceptible Pareto front and faster optimization.

Summary: This article suggests adopting multivariable H-infinity optimal control techniques to ensure stability and optimized performance of a VSC-HVDC link. A full-order, centralized MIMO controller is derived based on H-infinity optimization and used as a benchmark. Then, a fixed-structure, decentralized MIMO controller is synthesized to compromise between optimal performance and practical implementation.

Summary: Due to the scarcity of fossil fuels and environmental concerns, renewable energy sources have gained attention. In this study, multi-objective function optimization was used to design a sustainable biofuel supply chain based on greenhouse gas emissions and cost. The results show that the sustainable solution has a cost of $6.63 per gallon of gasoline-equivalent and emits 674.83 grams of CO2-equivalents per gallon of gasoline-equivalent.
