Summary: Previous studies have shown that EPA-PLs can improve glucose and lipid metabolism by increasing CD36 expression. However, the effects of EPA-PLs on glucose and lipid metabolism in CD36 mutation are still unclear. This study used SHR as a CD36 mutation model and found that dietary EPA-PLs could alleviate abnormal lipid levels and adipocyte hypertrophy in SHR. EPA-PLs also reduced triglyceride and cholesterol levels in the liver and improved glucose tolerance and insulin levels through the IRS/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. These findings suggest that EPA-PLs provide a precise nutrition strategy for individuals with CD36 mutation.

Summary: A Western-style high-fat diet leads to an accumulation of cholesterol in skeletal muscle plasma membrane, causing insulin resistance. The hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP) and increased Sp1 activity contribute to this cholesterolgenic response. Inhibition of Sp1 activity can prevent cholesterol accumulation and insulin resistance. These findings suggest that targeting HBP/Sp1 activity may be a potential therapy for preventing diet-induced insulin resistance.

Summary: This study found that an increasing HOMA-IR is associated with higher incidence and mortality rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Compared to individuals with stable HOMA-IR, those with increasing HOMA-IR have a higher risk of CVD, all-cause mortality, CVD mortality, and major adverse cardiovascular event mortality.

Summary: This study found that knockout of the JAZF1 gene leads to early growth retardation and late onset insulin resistance. The experiment showed that Jazf1 KO mice had reduced plasma IGF-1 concentration, shorter stature in young mice, increased fat mass and reduced lean body mass in adult mice. Additionally, adult mice also exhibited muscle insulin resistance and increased plasma GH concentration. Gene set enrichment analysis identified a decrease in hepatocyte hepatic nuclear factor 4 alpha (HNF4α) in Jazf1 KO liver.

Summary: Atherosclerosis is a major cause of serious cardiovascular disorders, and its pathogenesis involves multiple processes. Reverse transport of cholesterol is a mechanism that plays a protective role against atherosclerosis. Disordered cholesterol metabolism can result in dyslipidemia and early atherosclerosis.

Summary: Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of metabolic dysregulations, including insulin resistance, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. This review summarizes the genetic information of cholesterol-related genes in metabolic syndrome, which may potentially serve as biomarkers for early prevention and management of the syndrome.

Summary: Insulin resistance prevents the neuroprotective effects of insulin, accelerating thrombosis formation and promoting atherosclerosis, which are major mechanisms of ischemic stroke. Regardless of whether the patient has diabetes, insulin resistance negatively affects the prognosis of patients with ischemic stroke. We investigated the association between insulin resistance and the primary mechanisms of brain injury in ischemic stroke, and summarized the therapeutic approaches for insulin resistance, proposing new therapeutic directions for improving prognosis in patients with ischemic stroke.

Summary: The relationship between hyperinsulinemia, DPP4 activity, and diseases like atherosclerosis has been studied, but the exact mechanisms remain unclear. While some research suggests that DPP4 inhibitors may be beneficial in improving cardiovascular outcomes, their effectiveness in clinical settings is still not fully confirmed.
